Here is the tire that I am going to get next week:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...es&place=34

I am going to get 225/45/18
They have a 540 A A rating
50,000 warranty
For $144.00 each

These tires just came out for 2009 so I am expecting quite an improvement over the stock tires & the Pirelli's. These are supposed to be good for the snow as well since I don't run dedicated snow tires......time will tell when it snows in Chicago.....just how good they are.

So does anyone here have these tires already & if so....whatcha think?

They arrived this afternoon & here are some pics before I head out to the Discount Tire in the morning to have them mounted:

Attached File  0716091904.jpg ( 499.7K ) Number of downloads: 22

Attached File  0716091904a.jpg ( 347.96K ) Number of downloads: 29

Attached File  0716091905.jpg ( 497.42K ) Number of downloads: 22

They are pretty light....something like 22lbs. a tire....the stocks are something like 25 or 27lbs.

A quick review will be up in a day or so &
I'll have a write up on them in about a month for an overall view without snow.

Well they have been installed & so far they are way way WAY better than the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S's I had on there.

Attached File  0717091206.jpg ( 595.52K ) Number of downloads: 22
Attached File  0717091213.jpg ( 384.07K ) Number of downloads: 26
Attached File  0717091213a.jpg ( 429.83K ) Number of downloads: 15

As far as they go....here is my innital response:

Ride: Conti's 1st. Pirelli's 2nd & the Dunlops 3rd

Quietness: Same rating as above

Handling: Dunlops 1st ( but I thought that they were too twitchy....meaning when you barely touch the wheel....they reacted almost too quickly which I didn't care for at all)
Conti's (possibly 1st.) Very smooth....almost seems like they are a perfect match for our car. Move the wheel slightly to the left or right & they respond in a very
smooth maner. Not reluctant or not over eager like the Dunlops.
Pirelli's ....shouldn't even try in this catagory....really didn't like them after all. Didn't respond well to drivers input & when pushed hard at times......they didn't seem
to like that at all. They really started to get sloppy.....especially as they wore.

Wear: The Conti's are "supposed" to last 50K
The Pirelli's I would say could last at least 40K
The Dunlops.....maybe 30...maybe

I will be taking notes as I get into the rain & more handling & eventually...snow....just to give everyone a heads up on how I like them & how they are holding up.

quick question sixfeet,
i was looking at reviews on these and cant find anything bad unlike the dunlops lol
I am thinking on getting them, but not sure on the dw or the dws. I have dedicated winter rims with xice2 on them.
so i would only need the dw i think. Are the dw a little better on handling then the dws? i couldnt find really anything to say. But then again with the dws i could get the summer rims on a little ealier since if it snows in may i would still have grip.

looking for advise since looks like i need to get some new rubber.

thanks in advance.

From the reviews that I have read......the DW's are a summer tire that are supposed to be really really good.

To give you an idea go under google & look for Continental Extreme Contact DW review & see what you find. I just like the fact that they are new for 2009 & that they have taken what they have learned through the years with the current lineup & have new & improved tires. My thing that I have heard about the Conti's is that they have a little softer of a sidewall which will aid in a better ride, but still holds great for the fun times. See what it says & make your mind up from there.
I am still very happy with mine. I just started to develope a vibration around 80 & so I think that I may have lost a weight...I plan on having that checked out ASAP this week.
Plus I want to have another alignment done just to make sure everything is cool & that they are going to wear even & last me a while.

SixFeetDeep,

Thanks for the awesome review on your DWS's, my tires are dry rotting so new tires are in my near future. I'll go with continentals, however an older model, the ContiExtremeContact, as I don't need to worry about snow. Again, I appreciate the help. You made my tire buying decision a lot easier.

They have older versions & they aren't much cheaper at all.....you would be better off just going with the new version with updated tread design & better materials.....so if you don't need to worry about the snow....try going with the DW version. That 60 trial part is the best....

O.K.....I finally put the car through it's paces & I am still happy, but the tires do flex a bit when you do a quick right to left & back transition. It still isn't bad...just something new to get used to. Once you get over the fear of the flex....the car still does what you ask just fine.
I guess that is still o.k, but people looking for more performance with handling might want to look elsewhere. might.
The ride is pretty smooth & the tires will handled just fine with what I threw at them & they never squealed about it once....but the sidewall flex might turn some off.
I actually wouldn't change a thing. I guess to get a smooth ride you have to have a softer sidewall....otherwise they would ride like the Dunlops...yuck fooey!

U-P-D-A-T-E:

O.K since I had the tires installed I have put on over 6,000 miles.....yep I drive alot!
I have developed a vibration around 60ish on up. The tires have been balanced several times & the alignment is spot on......still it vibrates enough to where if your driving long enough......your arm will go numb!

I have contacted Discount Tire & they are sending me out a brand new set. Well see if I just got a goofy set for the 1st ones or what....IDK

I'll see how round 2 goes with them.....but as I said....you get 60days to try them out....sooooooooooo glad they have that!

New tires arrived today!

So we will see how it goes for the 2nd round. I am taking the car to another alignment place on the 18th. The owner there drives an 09 GTS, so I have some confidense that he will be able to get my car done right.

I'll of course post back with the new info. But so far I am getting about 7,000+/- free miles. Great news for me. My tires will be that much better for winter time Woo-Hoo!

As I stated previously I received my new tires. I went to have the installed today & the manager of my Discount Tire looked puzzled at me & asked if I really want to put those tires on again. I ask why & he says because everybody who has them is having issues! Vibrations.....pulling....etc.
So I asked him if I can swap the new ones for something else & seeing that I have no additional funds to really put into the tires right now I am going on the managers recommendations.

Yokohama YK520 The manager has them on his car & has had no issues with them for 10K now. I have looked & looked & the only other tires that I really like for our car costs over $200 a pop. I need something that does every season well.

It was either those or some Goodyear GT's....which don't look like they are going to handle winters all too well & the Yoko's look better for comfort & quietness & look pretty decent for winters without having to switch to all winter tires for snow time.

Nothing else out there really looks to good for me with all year driving & supposedly decent miles. The Yoko's are supposed to last 60K but all the reviews are saying that they wear out kinda quickly so we shall see.

Geez how many sets of tires have I been through now?

Dunlop Sport 5000m
Pirelli P-Zero Nero A+S
Continental DWS Extreme Contact

& coming soon.....

Yokohama YK520....shit....buying tires for this car really sux!

FYI....I will be sticking with the 225/45/18 size again.......same size as the Conti's I have now.

^ that sucks 6ft! Hopefully the Yokos turn out better.. I know I will be relying heavily on your reviews in choosing my new set of tires for next year, so your reviews are very much appreciated!

As far as I seen / read the eagle GT's should do fine in light snow (a "good" rating for deep snow and ice traction on tire rack) and in dry and wet driving simply blows away the other tires that they were pitted against on tire rack. (the yoko's your getting are not in their test, but other yoko's are).

here's the test tire rack did: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/chartD...ay.jsp?ttid=113

No performance tire is going to do that well in deep snow, if you drive a lot in that condition you'll need dedicated snows. I can't imagine your winters are any worse than the winters here and I'm very confident the eagle gt's will do fine for me. Most of the time winter driving is in wet conditions more than deep snow.

In any event, keep us posted on the new yoko's and how you like them.

I don't know what machine they had used to do mine. All I know is that the backside of the rim had pound on weights & the inside just behind the face of the rim there were stick on weights.

IDK.......the new tires are nice......they handle better than the Conti's did with a better on center feel & I don't find myself wandering side to side in the lane as I did with the Conti's. Road noise on the new Yoko's are slightly louder than the Conti's which is a negative....you can hear the expansion joints that you run over....noticeable, but not annoying. I would still rate these tires higher than the Conti's & better than the Pirelli's that I had.
I was told that the tires will have a "break in" period of maybe 150 miles......so after my next trip to work I will be over that & I should be able to tell if they are better or not.....
Not exactly sure what I will find different on them....but we'll see. So far they handle nice!

No comments about how dirty the old girl is......... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laughing.gif)

One thing I forgot to mention is the fact that the sidewall flex is now gone. Guess it is something common with Conti's. Def. more responsive the the Conti's.

Well I have had a few days in the rain with the new tires & I am sorry to say that I can break them loose pretty easy.....which is something I couldn't do with the Conti's.
My initial instinct says that these tires I got are going to suck in the snow. Guess I'll find out soon enough with the crappy weather that is coming....seems sooner than later.
Will report back with updated info.

In the dry they pretty much seem like a perfect tire for the Lancer. Reasonably quiet.....really good steering response.....they stay pretty quiet when you push them hard into a turn & they hold the turn really good too. Time will tell..........
