^That would be State Farm or Allstate, the #1 and #2 insurance companies in the USA. (and I'm sure most any insurance company)
DRL's are only considered drl's if 1) they are drl's from the manufacturer / factory and 2) if they are in the main headlight housing. Fog lights that are rigged to be always on are not considered to be drl's. If you had an old car that didn't have drl's and you installed fog lights and had them on all the time, they are not considered drl's. Same as if you had your no drl's but you manually turned your headlights on during the day, that is not considered drl's, it's just having your headlights on. Rigged fog lights are not drl's.
I'm just passing on some info, you can use that info however you want. I'm not saying that they definitely won't cover you or would even find out, but why risk it just cause you think it looks cool. Insurance companies don't make money by paying out on every claim that people submit. They make money by paying out as little money as possible.

Well I got a discount for my old Explorer because I had drl installed. I took it up there and showed them. They said they would consider it a safety upgrade. I guess my Allstate guy is one in a million.

BTW, not trying to start an argument or anything. If someone is worried about insurance then they need to check before they do the mod.

^ Ok, well that's good to know, but that's not the same as rigged fog lights. Maybe since drl's have become more common they are allowing after market installed drl's to be considered a safety upgrade. My ex-girl friend who gave me all the "insider info" worked in insurance for years (state farm), but that was about 7 years ago, so maybe things have changed. I would imagine though that it would have to be installed "professionally", as if it was factory (some type of kit). And by that I mean you prob could install some kit yourself or have a shop do it and they'll accept it, but I still don't think a rigged setup (running wires in the fuse box) would be considered drl's. They might consider it a fire hazard actually.
Why not show your setup to your agent and see what they say.

My insurance company, Geico, does list all the discounts applied for my GTS and DRL's is not listed. Now, if an accident happens, how often does the agent show up at the location to inspect the car? If it was bad enough that the insurance company needs to inspect the car to verify that the DRL were on, I'm sure that there isn't enough of a front end to look for a single wire, the junk yard won't work, to easy to tamper with. Also, who's to say that the fuse blow and that I was working on getting it replaced.

Because I haven't done anything yet. If I do, I'll use the method I posted earlier. No wire running to the fuse.

No discount for drl's with geico, that sucks. I have never been in an accident with another car, but have been in two where I hit something (guard rail once and curb another time). Both times the insurance guy came the next day and looked the car over to know what the damaged was and how much it would cost to fix. This was with allstate first time and state farm the second time. Since I had the dealer fix it they were involved in the damage assessment as well. I would imagine a drl on or off question would probably only come up if your insurance company was getting sued or had to pay out a large sum. An investigation would most likely take place. Simple fender bender and your probably fine. When I crashed into a guard rail the car was totaled. My front tires were bald and that became an issue about payout of money because they had to pay out $16,000. If I remember right they concluded the tires had nothing to do with the accident and they paid out. The blown fuse theory may not hold up, kinda of the same as if your brake line broke and you didn't get it fixed, then drove and crashed, mechanical failure in your car is still your fault. (it's not the fuses fault) The cause could be listed as mechanical, but usually that will go down as your fault. (maybe no fault, depends on circumstances). When I swerved to miss a deer and went over the curb causing $1800 in damage it was my fault. If I hit the deer it's no fault. All depends on the circumstances.

I can't see that topic because I don't have a 9glancers login account, so I don't know what that method is. I thought you were talking about the fuse box wire method. If it looks factory (professional) then you're probably fine, if they could even tell.
