So i just recently bought an 2003 Lancer OZ and just a few days a go i went to turn the AC over to the heat and the knob popped off. Now it wasnt just a pop off who ever owned the car previous decided to torque the knob until it snapped then proceeded to use what i think were pliers to turn the post which the knob fit on. So here's my question in order to fix the knob would i have to just take off the dash and then then disconnect the AC and replace the knob and post or have to replace the whole unit?

You will most likely have to replace the control assembly that includes that switch behind the dash panel. If you haven't taken a dash (or part of one) off before I'd recommend not trying it yourself with all that is hooked up and to it. I once tried taking off a door panel only to find it was an "art" and even the dealer techs often busted a few clips in the process and simply installed new ones putting it back on.

there is more wrong than just the broken knob....
if u search the forum for a/c knob hard too turn ...there is a tsb from mitsu about replacing the cable and or the linkage...or if its really bad taking the evap case out(which means taking the dash out) and reparing the door gear that gets stuck.... so the previous owner probably never had it fixed and just left it until the knob broke...
so now u may have too replace the control assembly along with the parts from the tsb.....

I got bored and decided to take the dash apart and "inspect it" by the looks of it in order for me to get the whole switch out I have to disconect the cable first then i should be able to get it out am I right or not even close? I'm new at lancers too what is the TSB?
