OK I'm in the middle of takeing out my engine and I cant get it apart from the transmission. I have all the bolts undone (there was 10 in total) I can get the engine to come about an inch from the transmission but it won't let go like something is holding it on. I've pulled and pryed and still nothing it won't detach!!!. It's a 5speed and it's in neutral with the E-brake on.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

you've removed all engine mounts, and disconnected everything the wiring harness connects too? Are you lifting the engine out with a cherry-picker or what?

Did you disengage the throwout bearing for the clutch? If you didn't then you will pry all you want and never get anywhere except for damaging some stuff. If you haven't disengaged it yet, I have some pointers for you, I just did mine last week.

Hey I am useing a cherry-picker to lift out the engine. all wires are unpluged and the engine mounts are removed.

The throw-out bearing has not been disengaged. maybe thats why it wouldn't come out. I heaved and hoed but it did feel like something was pulling back.

How do I disengage this throw out bearing? and as it says in the name do I have to replace the throw out bearing before reinstalling the engine?
Thanks alot!!!!!

Yeah, since you didn't disengage the throwout bearing, I would imagine thats why it isn't coming apart for you. On the bottom of the bellhousing there is a small rubber plug that you can pop out with a flat blade screw driver. Use a light to look up in the hole and you will see the shifting fork, the pressure plate, and the TOB (throwout bearing). Since you have already been prying on it it may be more difficult for you to have it disengage but you need to try and releive the pressure from off of the TOB by getting the transmission and the engine close again. Once you have that done see if you can move the shift fork at all. The shift fork boot is on the top of the bellhousing and the clutch plunger is hooked up to it if you haven't disconnected that yet. If the fork won't move at all, then what I did is I tapped it with a hammer lightly until it moved a little. The fork is going to put some resistance onto the TOB and make it pop out easier. Once you have that then if you look back into the bellhousing you'll see a collar around the TOB, you need to use a flat blade screw driver to put pressure against the collar to release it. Here is a video that shows what the proceedure should look like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsIOWe3LyIQ. What I ended up doing is have someone turn the engine over using a 1/2 inch drive ratchet with an extension and while they were turning it over I used a 2 foot long flat blade screwdriver to pry against the collar. It was a lot like a can opener if you can imagine that. Once the input shaft made an entire revolution the TOB popped loose.

While you have everything apart you should inspect the clutch components. If they look worn at all I would replace them because you already have everything apart and it is a bitch if you end up having to redo everything later. I would at least replace the TOB since you are in there already because it isn't expensive and it could save you from having to redo all of that work later.

Let us know how it goes.

How long did it take you to get it apart and what did you end up doing to make it come apart?

We had taken off the rubber vents on the transmission and I went from the bottom and my friend went from the top we both took a flat head screwdriver and just started prying a twisting until finally the TOB just popped off.
Then I took out the remaining tranny bolts and the engine just fell apart from the transmission.
I'd say it was like 1hr-1.5hr just to get the TOB off.
I'm totally new to this kind of thing tho.
The most I've ever done to a car is a sound system and a cold air intake.
I bought the new engine and just copied it. Whatever was off missing from the new engine I took off the engine that was in th car.
I have some pics and can take more if anyone is interested in makeing some kind of guide for other people to follow. It really bothered me not to have a guide to follow or at the very least pics.
