I was just wondering if the engine/ set up in my 93 Plymouth Laser (1.8L N/A Manual) is the same as the eclipse and talon? do they all use Mitsubishi's 4g37 and a SOHC setup? and is the Manual Trans the same? This will help me find parts because not allot is advertised for the Laser. Its the lesser known of the DSMs afterall.

Yes, they are all identical.

And actually, the 4g63 n/a trans will also bolt up provided you use the 1.8L clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate. Doing this will change your gear ratios and increase top end, but decrease bottom end. Depending on your application, this could be good or bad.

Just some food for thought. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

NP. I am curious to see if an AWD tranny will bolt up to the 4G37 provided the 1.8L motor is installed in an AWD shell... Ralph (redline6k on here) was working with the idea but couldn't find a tranny in his price range that was in good enough condition.

so basically you'd be dropping a 1.8 in a GSX/TSI? Im all for modifying and stuff, but why would you want to do this? You guys must really love the 1.8L. Are you just doing it to say it can be done? Or are you actually going to create a bad ass AWD car with a 1.8L? I don't mean any disrespect, I think its a good project, just want to know why.

Ralph was doing it before he cracked his block and decided to go 2.0. I am not sure of his reasons, but I think it would be badasss if it could be done.

ya Id like to see if it can be done, but it just seems senseless to downgrade to a 1.8 in a car that came with a 2.0T. But I guess if you happened to have a GSX/TSI with a blown engine and you happened to have a 1.8 sitting around, it would be nice to know it could be doped in.
