Finally after way too much B.S....dealing with multiple alignments from the idiots @ my local NTB shops.....& finally having to take it to another shop to have it done properly......

Then after having issues with my new tires........finally getting another set to fix everything......yep....set #4! So I def. have input on tires for our car LOL!

Since all that is done.....I finally went ahead & did my rims yesterday. I really wasn't too hard at all. I used at least 1 can per wheel. It pretty much turned out to be at least 8 or more coats that I put on....1 thing that you have to do is stop every couple of sprays & shake the can for about 5 seconds or more. If I didn't do that I would get some splattering effect which I would have to wipe off & respray.
The front rims have a little less shine that the rears......the rears I sprayed alittle differently. I would spray just enough on the fins of the wheel to where the paint would lightly pool on the surface.....not enough to make the paint run mind you.....& by doing it that way instead of a light coarting.....it would dry & have a slight shine to the finsished product.
It's not a night & day difference....but it is slightly noticeable....To help the paint dry I would use the wife's hair dryer & hold it about 2' away & just let it do it's thing.

Any of the overspray that went onto the tire easily pulled right off after everthing was dry. Anything left was removed by rubbing a shop rag around the tire & everything came right off.

I wanted to do something different with the center caps....like painting the Mitsu logo red.....aahhhh...maybe next time.....enough delay...here it is:

Here it is on the front end:

Attached File  0711091507.jpg ( 591.99K ) Number of downloads: 157

Heres the new tires I put on this time around:

Attached File  091609152201.jpg ( 745.34K ) Number of downloads: 59

So...be honest.....what do you think? About all I have left to do....besides to clean the filthy girl, is to get the windows tinted & I still want to get her tuned. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

Looks really good. I painted my wheels too but used regular wheel paint. How well do you think the plasti-dip is sticking to the wheel?

If you want your center caps red, check ebay for those vinyl stickers. Painting those things are a pain and the vinyl stickers work real great. I have them and they survived an automatic car wash. And they look just as if I had painted them.

I think once the windows are tinted that it will hit the sweet spot!! Can you not get a front set of mud guards? I have a suspicion our GTS's don't fit them. And do your mirrors have turn signals built into them?? Never seen that!

I've seen those stickers on E-Bay....I like them.....I'll probably do that after winter.....thanks!

The plasti-dip seems to be holding on very well so far. But time will tell.......I used enough coats to where it shouldn't have any issues.

The GTS's ground effects get in the way of the mud flaps so I couldn't install them. I could just get a cheapo flat set & cut them to what I want......but if you see the amount of chips my car has on it already.....adding any kind of protection now is kinda a waste.

The mirrors are aftermarket that have amber turn signal leds built into them.......when I hit the door locks to lock....they auto fold in.......hit the unlock & they autofold back out.....& when it is snowy outside....I hit the rear defroster & they are heated as well. That & they are color matched perfectly to our vehicles.

Here is the website where I bought them from: http://www.x-factordesign.com/sidemirror

Just waiting to see what kind of bonus I get this year from work...if it's good....I'll get the windows done.

I was looking at those mirrors! I want them really bad! Is installation difficult or is there a harness that does it all? I don't want to void any warranties.

I was thinking, maybe making your gas lid black might add to the rims as well

I paid a bunch of $$$ to have a custom shop do the installation. There was no way my dmb ass could do it....it would have taken way too long & I never have a lot of free time. If your good with electronics then you shouldn't have many issues what-so-ever.

My dealership thought it was one of the coolest things they have seen.......so no worries with the warranty. All is good.

You guys are nuts with this plasti-dip, lol. Great stuff.

I am not a big fan of black rims, but I have to admit, it looks really good. Makes the car look even meaner. Nice job.

Yes.....yes I am (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laughing.gif) & thank you.

I would have prefered a set of rims with a polished black look with a chrome lip....but I couldn't quite get that one past the wifey LOL.

The stickers are real cheap. And the seller offers them in a bunch of colors. Oh and a tip. There are two ways to apply the stickers, a dry method and a wet method. Go with the wet method because even though you need a few more supplies, it makes things soooo much easier.

if i remember correctly...plasti dip is the stuff u dip your tool handles in too give a nice rubbery coating...correct??
how thick a coating did u have too put on to get even coverage?
and did it add a lot of weight? how is it affecting the wheel balance? could this be your vibration problems?
and i never looked into the heat resistance of plasti dip??
will it hold up under the heat from braking?

cuz i remember way back in the day on the taurus ford used too put a rubber like coating on the cheap steel wheels..and it would melt from excessive brake heat ...

No....I had issues with the vibrations before the new tires & before I plasti-dipped them......one of these days I am just going to go to another Discount Tire to see what they come up with.....maybe the store where I go...the balancer is slightly off?

The plasti-dip doesn't add much weight if any. Once you peel the stuff off....it is paper light & it is all applied evenly.

I did take the rims off the car 1 by 1. I cut out a piece of cardboard about the size of the inside of the rim & used that as a backer when I sprayed them.

So far no issues with the stuff coming off & I have sprayed the wheels with a presure washer....I was pretty close to them....I was kinda curious to see if I could blast the stuff off LOL!. So far they have been holding up quite well.

IF I get some extra time I plan on doing parts of the center caps in red.

I have been driving a little faster than I should lately....being bored as hell driving like a granny I decided to go into hyper mode.....with the braking & everything that I have been doing.....the stuff is still holding up well.

Thank you to all that like my work. I'm still not finished with the rims.....if there would be some way to do it without screwing everything up....I would love to spray athe lip in red.
Yep they have plasti-dip in that color by my house.....so I thought about giving it a try.

Come to think about it....my engine vibrates a good amount around 3Kish....give or take. When I rev the engine to around that area the steering wheel vibrates pretty good.....

But even if I am out of the rpm range the wheel still vibrates.....but only very slightly............

most balancers need too calibrated regulary and if heavy usage at least once a week....
the coats machine i used too work on ..we did it weekly..

also do they have the hunter road force machine?
that machine can tell if the tires bad..the rims out of round.. it can do most things...
your dealer may have one... but they usually charge extra for road force balancing...

sometimes it has taken me an hour a wheel to get them good or the tires are bad... or the rims are..
u may want too look into that as a option

You are crazy with your plastidip.. but hey, it looks awesome and from what you're saying its pretty durable too, i might even try it myself. I have been working on the grille, only have enough time to put 1-2 coats a day, as im mainly busy renovating the house these days.. If we dont get rain this weekend, im planning on finishing up the grille with plastidip and then doing my bumper.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I don't recall which balancer machine they use....but I will try taking it to another store.......

Crazy...yes.....yes I am : - D

I did look at the rims while they balanced them & they weren't out of round....no wiggle...no hops...all good. So IDK.>..we'll see.

I only plan on keep the car for just 2 more years before it goes to my brothers kid....he'll be old enough to drive & he can have it. I'll get something nice!
