so I went today and bought 4 cans of plasti-dip just for this.
I was reading and it said 30 mins between each coat. I know you used a blowdryer to speed this up, just wondering how long you waited?
I want to make sure I do it right the first time. hopefully its comes out as good as yours

Hey. How is the Plasti Dip holding up? I was going to Remove all 4 wheels, sand, resand, and paint the rims, but Plasti Dip seems so much easier. If it works well for you, I'll definitely do it instead.
I have a question though, why is it necessary to remove the wheel? Why can't you just spray it with the wheel on the car? Even if there's overspray, it's easy to remove anyway, so what's the big deal?? Does the tire have to be laid down horizontally or something (because I watched a few videos on Youtube on painting rims, and some ppl said it may be easier to stand the wheel up).
One more, did you Plati dip your mud guards on, or are those real mud guards? Thanks

Plasti-dip doesn't really add much weight. I doubt it would throw off the balance. I only used 4 coats this weekend. This was more of a test to see if I like it. I do. I will be painting them eventually. Not sure if I want to keep the lug nuts chrome though. Hopefully I can get motivated to get the windows tented this week! QUOTE (KrUsHeR @ Nov 2 2009, 02:17 PM) The white plasti-dip on the wheels looks GREAT with the rally red paint!! I wonder if it would look good on my octane blue lancer...
Photoshop anyone...?? LOL I used a picture from nhernan74. It would look something like this. (IMG: http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt43/IsIAreIsMe/june_08_114.jpg)

Question about the white rims though, won't that make a lot of unnecessary heat? Kind of like white wall tires?

QUOTE (SixFeetDeep @ Sep 20 2009, 07:38 AM) Finally after way too much B.S....dealing with multiple alignments from the idiots @ my local NTB shops.....& finally having to take it to another shop to have it done properly...... Then after having issues with my new tires........finally getting another set to fix everything......yep....set #4! So I def. have input on tires for our car LOL! Since all that is done.....I finally went ahead & did my rims yesterday. I really wasn't too hard at all. I used at least 1 can per wheel. It pretty much turned out to be at least 8 or more coats that I put on....1 thing that you have to do is stop every couple of sprays & shake the can for about 5 seconds or more. If I didn't do that I would get some splattering effect which I would have to wipe off & respray. The front rims have a little less shine that the rears......the rears I sprayed alittle differently. I would spray just enough on the fins of the wheel to where the paint would lightly pool on the surface.....not enough to make the paint run mind you.....& by doing it that way instead of a light coarting.....it would dry & have a slight shine to the finsished product. It's not a night & day difference....but it is slightly noticeable....To help the paint dry I would use the wife's hair dryer & hold it about 2' away & just let it do it's thing. Any of the overspray that went onto the tire easily pulled right off after everthing was dry. Anything left was removed by rubbing a shop rag around the tire & everything came right off. I wanted to do something different with the center caps....like painting the Mitsu logo red.....aahhhh...maybe next time.....enough delay...here it is: [attachment=11522:0919091805.jpg] Here it is on the front end: [attachment=11523:0711091507.jpg] Heres the new tires I put on this time around: [attachment=11524:091609152201.jpg] So...be honest.....what do you think? About all I have left to do....besides to clean the filthy girl, is to get the windows tinted & I still want to get her tuned. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) looks great, you may want too get new lug nuts either black or red (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'm sure I could mask it good, and I guess I would just have to really take my time trimming it with the razor. I just wasn't sure how easy or hard it was to trim the plasti-dip. Thanks man, sounds like a spring project, ill just take a day or two and do it right. The alternative would be too sell my stock rims and buy new ones, but I have other stuff I want to do before rims, so ill have to think about it. A pic would help.
Thanks man, that would be cool. The pics I have up are high quality taken with a good digital camera, but I did reduce them to 1024 x 768 online. I do have the originals that are 3056 x 2292 if needed.

Allright I did a super quick, super sloppy version. The pic quality was not the greatest so matching the color of plasti-dip was hard. Plasti dip will be a darker black then what you see in this picture. So again, super basic. I noticed that our rims have an awesome line already, that would really help you mask off the rest of the rim, so in this pic i used that line to keep it silver on one side and black on the other. If the front wheel looks funny, it is, i just copy pasted the back and skewed the dimensions. Again, it was quick. I left the bolts silver, but now that I think about it, making them black would look good. just might want to get new ones cause you would have to re-plasti dip em every time you took them off. when i have a bit more time i will do a better pic
