Our 1999 Pajero IO has a flashing orange center Diff light (transfer case).

It flashes orange (slow flashing) as soon as the ignition is on.
It flashes very quickly whenever accelerating above about 30km/h and then goes back to flashing slowly when accelerator is released.

Does not flash when diff lock is engaged (ie. in 4H dl of 4L dl).

light has been flashing since we bought the car which was very recently- not sure if the last owner re-wired anything but the car does have an after market stereo.

Has anyone had the same problem ?

Thanks!

Just a note on this problem. It does not seem related to 4wd operation but is dependent on the ignition and engine RPM which is very odd. Does anyone know how this circuit could be shorted to the engine tach or any other reason why would be RPM related?

I thought there may be a problem with the relay which controls the lights and possibly shorted to an ignition wire.

i had the same problem with my IO after taking it in deep water. it took 3 days for it to come back to its normal position. now the orange light is not blinking. i think its more of the electrical part, cables and connectors near the differential that has the issue. it needs to be made more water tight. You would need to get under the under carriage and physically inspect the cable and connectors.
