[size="7"][size="7"]Dear all,
I have just bought a 2000 Mitsubishi Grandis. It is a wounderful vehicle, however, there is a tapping sound in the engine. I was told it could be the valve lifters or the grade of engine oil i am using. It was also suggested that i switch to synthetic oil. I am really in need of some advise.
Regards,

Hi Polaris
I have an older 1999 Mitisubishi Chariot Grandis like yours with a similar problem. The tapping sound in my vehicle comes on only in the morning after the vehicle is left sitting overnight. This is distinct from the light ticking sound that you occasionally hear coming from the engine. The source of both sound is the hydraulic valve lash adjusters. If these sound(s) come on intermittently than you can try and live with them as to replace the adjusters is a very laborious and involved job due to the engine design that is very mechanic unfriendly. If the tapping sound is permanent you should experience some lack of power as the adjusters are not functioning properly and the valves are not opening and closing to specification.
I hope to DIY mine some time in the future when I can find the time to "down" my car for a few weeks and take my time to do it.
Regards
Vincent
