I will admit I am a newb when it comes to this starion and also this forum but I just can't find the information I need to figure this issue out. I checked the other threads on this issue and mine is not exactly the same so I will ask for someones help who knows better than I. I have been a mechanic for over 20 years and am an ASE master in both truck & car just for quick background, but have never worked on a Starion before this though. I bought this 87 Starion turbo with a bad motor. The car came with a good used motor that the previous owner heard run but the car and motor both sat for almost 10 years. I thought my best move would be to hear the car run with the original motor first to make sure there were no hidden issues. I drained and cleaned the tank, purged the lines and got the car running but only after cranking it for about an hour or so with no spark. Eventually it just began sparking like it should but I couldn't explain why. I replaced the motor using all the original components off of the original engine because I new it was operational as I heard the old motor run (although it knocked). Now with the replacement engine installed I again have no spark at all. From memory I believe I have 12 volts to the coil but don't have any power at either terminal on the plug going to the distributor but don't know what I should see anyway. I have two distributors, two coils, and two sets of caps, rotors, and wires so I have tried swapping these parts to no success. I have a manual on the car but it is very general and non specific so I don't have scematics or troubleshooting for this ignition system. If anyone here could help me out with some detailed diagnosis or maybe have been in this same situation I would appreciate anything I can get. I appologize for the long post but I wanted all the information included so it would be available to anyone that could help. Thank you in advance.
