'98 Galant, 141,000 miles. Idle speed unstable. RPM varies cyclically as if searching for equilibrium. OBD error code is 0505, "idle control system malfunction". After start idle varies between 1500 and 2000 every few seconds. When warmed up, cycling idle speed can reach 3000. Did not find any loose vacuum hoses. According to my son, problem appeared with no previous symptoms. Using stethescope, heard IAC stepping motor pulse when ignition key was engaged. Measured resistance of IAC inline connector terminals. Values same as working 1997 Galant. With air intake hose off, throttle plate appeared clean and unobstructed. Any help on likely problem/failed part next step. Thanks.
