QUOTE (DuffmasterFresh @ Oct 26 2009, 05:53 PM) If your trying to go with the Navi, you might as well go aftermarket, its much cheaper and far superior to the Rockford Fosgate Navi system. I have the Navi system, and it pales in comparison to even a $400-$600 aftermarket navi system. I've heard the navi portion isn't that good, but I find myself wondering if I should have got the stock navi unit, not necessarily for the navi, but for the extra settings that I'm missing, for the 30gb music server, and for the ability to watch dvd's. I have the 6 cd RF system, but I'm tired of having to hook up my iphone for music and to watch movies or videos and also to have to carry around cd's as well. The music server would be nice so I can have my entire music collection at my fingertips. Even with 6 mp3 cd's and my iphone I don't have all my music with me. If the price was right I might be interested in the stock unit myself. I'm not going to go crazy with the stereo in this car so the RF system is probably good enough for me. And I'm not going to add giant sub boxes and more amps cause that's just adding more weight. Has anyone called the dealer for a price? Does anyone know of another system that has a hard drive or similar storage in it?

The problem I have ran into with the music server is that you have to wait until a CD is ripped to it, which could take 10+mins a CD. It would have been nice to throw music on there via USB or even have it removable. And anything after 2008 shows up as "Track 1: Unknown Artist" cause the built-in software doesn't have the latest artists yet. The EQ sucks, and I have never used the DVD function though I herd it was pretty good. The navigation has never failed me, but its plain and right to the point, I would have liked 3-D maps and a bit more color. Also, my fathers portable XM radio shows color photos and albums when music is playing (kinda like an RDS), the stock navi unit does no such thing which surprised me. It does have a lap time computer though haha, should I ever take it to the track. They should have aftermarket navi units with build-in hard drives to store music, and I doubt you would get the rockford navi for a good price.

Guess I did make the right choice. It would take me months to rip all my cd's to the server and some of my music isn't even on cd, it's just mp3's or mp4 (aac). I could burn them to a cd then rip them to server, but that's too much work. I also need the artist names and tracks to show. Guess I'll look after market with a hard drive, but I will loose my oem bluetooth setup and have to use the bluetooth on the aftermarket unit, which I guess isn't too bad.

QUOTE (youngmasterzack @ Oct 26 2009, 08:36 PM) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/8-LCD-DVD-G...5fAudioQ5fVideoive been saving up for this.. and checking some reviews.. it looks legit but its like buying a no name brand juice.. taste good but not that good.. lol I took a look at that link you posted, does that unit fit the dash properly? Just looking at where the screen is and the disc input below it, doesn't look like it will fit in the dash space that is in our lancers. Just look at the screen between the two vents on either side and then the rest of the stereo is underneath the screen. The dash piece just looks to big. I dunno, it could just be my imagination, who knows... Does anybody have this unit installed? If so, please post pics...

QUOTE (SixFeetDeep @ Oct 28 2009, 04:15 PM) Aaahhhh...if only you lived closer to me....I might just so happen to leave my vehicle unlocked.....& if my Navi unit disappeared....aaaawwwww...I would be sooo sad!
I really dislike my Navi unit......it has some cool features & the hard drive is nice...but the actual Navi part sucks big time! Go aftermarket. You're in Chi-town, right? hmmmm.... pretty much a stone's throw away from toronto (IMG: style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) haha, kidding Regards.

^ You might need to experiment. When you burn a CD from mp3 files, the cd burning software should allow you to manually enter in the song/album/artist information then burn that info onto the cd and the cd player should be able to read it, just wondering of the navi can. There is also software that can connect to a cd database on the internet, like freedb, and get the song/album/artist info automatically. Copying / burning a cd from another cd should work the same way, either manually enter the info or automatically from the cd database.
So it sounds like the navi unti has a built in cd database, that's a little older, and that's why it doesn't have the info for newer cd's. So that's actually kinda cool, so that older store bought cd's will still display info for the cd cause it can pull that info from it's internal database. If it can also read burned cd's or mp3 disc then you could have info for just about anything. If you had a newer store bought cd, you could copy/burn it to a blank cd and enter the info for the navi to display. If it doesn't display this type of info, but can only display the info from its own database that wouldn't be as good. Usually a cd player that can display this info has a CD Text logo on it or says in its manual that it can read cd text.
