I own a 2003 Montero Sport. It has had an odor since the day it was driven off the lot and is getting worse instead of better. It is about 11 months old with about 8,900 miles on it. The odor is a strong chemical type odor that becomes present after the vehicle wams up. It is so bad that it will make your eyes water and leaves a residual smell on your clothes as well as the interior of the vehicle. You can also smell it it while standing outside of the vehicle. The dealer claims it is undercoating burning off and has taken no steps to eliminate the problem. I feel if it is undercoating burning off the problem should be getting better and not worse with time and miles. Anyone else experiencing similar problems? Any suggestions how to handle the dealer and get them to do something about this problem?

I would have your transmission flushed and have the fluid replaced. The required fluid is "Diamond ATF Type SP". I had a problem where a mechanic put in Dextron III and it smelled whenever I drove it for any length of time. Now this may not be the problem because I had an overheating problem associated with it but it's worth a shot, GL. Also, are there any spots of fluid in your parking space? Do you see anywhere that any fluid could have leaked on the engine? Hope this helps.
