While looking thru the car manual for something entirely different, I started reading about the Rockford Fosgate 6 cd changer system. Here are some useful options / settings I found that I did not know the stereo had.

I only listen to MP3 cd's, this way I can have anywhere from 60-90 albums to listen to at a time using all 6 cd's. One thing I never could do was shuffle and entire mp3 cd. I could shuffle inside a folder, but not the entire mp3 cd.
To shuffle an entire mp3 cd:
--Choose the mp3 cd you want, press and hold the RDM button for more than 2 seconds. The display will then show D-RDM. It will now play random songs off the entire mp3 cd.

Another thing that bugged me was when playing mp3 cd's the display would show the folder name or the mp3 file name. Since my mp3 files have the track number in the name to keep them in the correct order on the cd, the number would always display too and cut off part of the name. I have now discovered that the stereo will display the ID3 tag information instead of the file name. It will show the artist name, album name, or track name. (note: you have to enter the ID3 tag info into the mp3 file before burning it to cd)
To view the ID3 tag info:
--With a song playing, press and hold the DISP button for more than 2 seconds. The display will then switch to ID3 tag display mode.

Speed sensitive volume function. Many do not like this feature.
To turn it off:
--Press and hold the SOUND switch for more than 2 seconds. (sound switch is the knob on the right) The SVC menu will come up. Turn the sound knob left or right to turn the feature off or on. I turned mine off and noticed a louder stereo. We can now get the full potential out of the stereo.

Radio Broadcast Data System. This allows you to have your FM stations display info, like station name, artist, album, and track name. (the station must broadcast this info for it to display)
To turn RBDS on:
--Press the PTY button, choose your music category, press the scan button. The stereo will find stations within that category. Once found it will display the RBDS info for that station. save the station into a preset if desired.

Very useful information NY-09GTS!!

I will be using the mp3 shuffle for sure.

I guess a guy should really read through the owners manual. Who knows how much useful info you could find in there...

Ya moral of the story, read the manual. Only took me 18 months to find those features, lol. Since I brought my manual inside and started checking it out, I've found the door lock change option a few weeks ago and now the stereo stuff. Wonder what else I was missing. I'll be reading more.

Best part about reading the manual... For over nine months I was sure I didn't have foglights. I had the housing and the mounts, but when I looked it didn't look like there were bulbs inside and I could never find the switch. Then one fateful day in September... "Ohhhh, THAT'S how they work... oooo... pretty..."

The lack of radio information on the navigation system has kind of bothered me. As far as I know, there's no way for me to display additional information beyond the tuning frequency... right?

That's funny about the fogs. I remember it took me a few days to find the rear defroster, lol. I didn't notice the little symbol on the controls.

But anyway, I would think that the navi system would be able to display the Radio Broadcast Data System information. If the 6 cd changer system can do it, I would think the navi system would too. I don't know how to change that setting on the navi system though. The PTY button that the non-navi uses lets you choose a category first, like rock, country, jazz, classical, etc. Once you choose your category you hit scan and it scans for stations broadcasting the RBDS info. Try looking for a way to choose a music category, maybe that will point you to the correct setting.
