The VICV , is part of the throttle. The fuel pump and throttle control system are different things. The whole throttle body assembly would need to be replaced . The fuel pump does not control throttle control , it is merely the high volume fuel pump and filter assembly and passive pressure regulator with the housing body for the fuel level sender.

It is passively part of the injection pump , but more of the DiD distributor. Lots of smoke meaning tooooo much diesel and its not being burned. And is likely related to the Throttle system and not the injection pump or distributor. 2.5 , 2.8 or 3.2 DiD?

tcv is timing control valve that is part of the pump usualy u would have to change the pump or get it reconned if u take it to a mitsu dealer they can carry out a resistance check on the pump and tell u if it needs replacing takes about 30 mins and is good to do to make sure that the pump had actually failed, does ur vehicle hold revs at about 1500 rpm for a while then drop back to 750??

heres one to try mate, mines been a pita for months, eml coming on at tickover, code 52, kept above 2k no problems untill you came to a halt, in the end it was a blocked vac metal pipe, the one that fed the turbo actuator, pipes not corroded or kinked, 05 plate so not old either, perhaps worth checking your not in the same boat before lashing out, one diesel specialist told me i needed a replacement throttle valve as well
