Sooo I'm an idiot and never got a bypass valve for my CAI. Drove into a flooded street and my car died. I pushed it out with my hazard lights on, and tried waving a cop down but he just turned around and left when he saw me. I don't remember any sounds the engine made when I went into the water, but I had a little loss of power for a bit. Has anyone else had any problems like this? I'm assuming that it's HL because the intake was definitely submerged in water. I only tried cranking it a couple of times because I don't want to bend any rods or anything. Any suggestions? Any cures?

ouch... the engine will need comleatly dissasembled from what ive heard. to find what parts are destroyed/ salvagable. Im sure the pistons and valves will have sustaind the most damage. Ive never experienced this though. the block and head will need to be checked for cracks and stuff. that water shooting in there will really mess things up.

Yeah I got it towed back to my house today but haven't had the time to really look at it out of the rain. I'm in Norfolk VA in the middle of the "Atlantic Terror" or whatever storm has blundered the streets. I saw a 350Z submerged all the way up to the roof, which made me grateful for my condition though

From what I heard from someone else in my area with the same issue, same insurer, same bank, is that the insurance company considered the car "totaled" due to cost of repairs being more than what was paid for the car. Was ensured for the cost of the car, and the bank has a contract for his loan saying that if the car is totaled, the remaining debt of the loan is dropped. Soooo.... let's hope that my car is "totaled"? Insurance people haven't had the time to look at my car yet though, but I'm prayin'!

Car will be appraised by USAA tomorrow in the morning.

I was running at really low RPMs when i drove into the water, does this lower my chances that I've done a lot of harm to my car? Engine doesn't sound like it doesn't want to turn over, but it does *click* when ignition is turned. Could it be that the engine is locked because nothing in the cylinders can compress? I removed the three spark plugs in the front, then I tried removing the plenum but was afraid that I may do more harm to my car than anything, which I wouldn't want to do before having it appraised by my insurance. So, I'm wondering; could it still be the other three spark plugs in the back that need to be removed in order to unlock my engine? I'm wondering if it will even try to turn over if I do that. Even tried push starting and dumping the clutch in second and third gear but the wheels locked. Am I hurting my car more?

I'm having a friend look at it, who was a mechanic for the Marine Corps;

Car is considered totaled. Insurance won't let me part it out or anything either, but I've got GAP coverage so I'm back to square one. Found an RX-7 though, so I'll probably be moving to Mazda forums instead. Thank you all for the help you've given, Special thanks to az3g and the plethora of posts you've done to help this site out.

So, I can buy the car back from the insurance company for a few hundred dollars. I dried out the cylinders and replaced the spark plugs (That Plenum is from hell). Still won't crank. It'll click when I turn the ignition, but I don't hear it trying to turn over or anything?

I would definetly get a new car if it is an option. Your looking down a long expensive road for a car that really isnt worth the time. No offence, but I wouldnt...
