ok so i just bought a 1992 3000gt. its awd and twin turbo has a couple mods done to it.

it has a kind of ticking noise when running, like a lifter tick? does anyone else have this? or should i be worried the engine is going to dump?

it turns over and starts but not not everytime. idk if i need a battery or a starter because sometimes it fires right up and other times it has to be jumped to start

i have 4 new struts i have to put on the vehicle. how easy is it to change them?

and there is a dent in the drivers side quarter panel its good size. are the quarters bolt on or weld on.

other than that it drives and shifts fine, it has a bout 120000 miles on it and i plan on having the timing belt and waterpump changed immediatly.

please help out if you can!

could be any number of things causing slow starting, maybe the Idle stepper motor could do with clean, plugs and wires and if you intend doing the timing belt etc get the fuel filter changed too, not expensive and its under the battery tray a pitta to change though, some have never been changed and it will make difference!

the ticking is lifter tick. it's harmless and usually means your due for an oil change. If that doesn't help try a thicker oil...mobil 1 15-50 is pretty popular.
Or you can get 3g lifters which have larger oil holes which stop the ticking.

for the starting issue, does it just click sometimes when you go to start it? If so, search "click start". Basically, the fix is to run a jumper wire directly from the battery to the starter solenoid through a relay. 30 minutes, $15 in parts. I've done mine...had no idea what i was doing...took me an hour, works like a charm. The cause is reduced voltage to the starter solenoid as the wire to it is barely adequate to begin with, so as it corrodes it will happen more and more often. I suggest taking care of it before you get stranded somewhere.

let me know if you need help finding a walkthrough / writeup

and definitely take care of that 120k maint. asap

threw a new battery in fires up everytime.

probably will have 3g lifters installed along with the 120 mile main, but will try the thicker oil, i was told it has been running on synthetic so ill have to keep it on that

My boyfriend's shop specializes in 3000GT's and Stealth's. we're only about an hour and change from the NYC area.
We charge $975 for a 60/120k service, parts and labor. (timing belt, water pump, tensioner, tensioner pulley, etc).

there's a writeup on stealth316.com. basically, your gonna unscred the ringnut on the arial mount and take the whole contraption out...will require removal of a good part of the trunk trim. You need to do this to get the broken piece out.

http://www.stealth316.com/2-antenna.htm

stealth316 is a fantastic site BTW... Sometime what your looking for can be tricky to find, but it's just packed with usefull write-ups, how-to's, and info.

any standard 2-din head unit should bolt right in...just need a harness adapter
