I am located in California. Let me see if I can clarify. I turn on the car and it fires right up. Well as the engin gets warmer the idle goes up and down in between 1 1/2 and 0 RMPs. Since it goes low when going up and down, it turns off. Well while it is idleing up and down it lets out white smoke out of the exhaust. So obviously when I hit the gas it doesnt shut off, but once im at a stop the idle goes up and down again and then shuts off once it has had enough (dies so to speak). When I press the gass, it makes a loud clanky noise, but doesnt make that noise if I dont press the gas. Please let me know if I can answer any questions you have that may help lead to the issue. I fear it is either a cracked head or maybe timing belt?
sounds more like rod knock. drain your oil and look for metallic residue (it should appear copper'ish looking). THat's bearing material.... means your engine is blown.
How long has this been going on? if it is rod knock, you will either throw a rod straight through the block/oil pan, making an ENORMOUS mess, or your engine will just seize up. Stop driving it now, and start saving up your pennies for a replacement engine.
