I am looking for winter tires and rims for my 2009 Lancer GTS. When I went to a dealership to take a look into purchasing some witer rims and tires, on of the guys said that the universal rims used are not as safe as using Original Equipment Mitsubishi steel rims.

Has anyone heard any information to substantiate these claims?

In addition, does anyone know of good places in Toronto to purchase winter rims and tires? Thanks!

unless the uni rims are so cheap that they dont fit your car very well ive never had any problem with them....

as far as snow tires any steel rim that has the same bolt pattern/offset should work fine...

The issue is if the aftermarket rim does not fit snug around the wheel hub, the only things keeping the wheel perfectly centered are the 5 lug nuts. It can be argued that those wheels can cause vibrations/wobbles at higher speeds.

a hubcentric wheel is designed to fit snugly around the wheel hub to keep it centered instead of relying on the lug nuts.

You can also buy plugs that make sure its centered, they go on before you put your wheel on. They were perfectly fine. If youe going to go over 200 mph, you will notice aftermarket rims. If not, tell that dealer to shove it. My freinds idiot freind just payed 1300$ for half ass winter tires and their hubcentric""" wheel. BS IMHO. I baught hakkapelleta r's and put them on my stock rms cause ill be getting new rims in the summer. But for 800$ and i keep my stock rims + TPMS. Im lovin life lol

I also might add that if youre using steel rims, they are supposed to use acorn style lug nuts with a 60 degree taper. The factory alloys use a shank style nut with a washer on it.

make sure you have the correct ones for your wheels
