HI. I have a 1990 Pajero, 4D56 diesel. I have a fan clutch that is slipping due to age. This then causes my engine to start overheating above 3000RPM in 5th gear. When i drop it back down to 2950rpm, it's fine, the engine starts to cool down.

Does anyone know where I can get one of the older assemblies that were locked and didn't rely on heat to activate the clutch? My mechanic and I have thought of welding and older assembly, but the fear of imbalance and throwing the clutch assembly out at high speeds is too great. plus being aluminum, makes it difficult to weld.

The last option is to remove the engine driven fan and use an auxiliary electric fan. Being here in Kenya, makes it most difficult to get parts at fair prices. Whenever I go back to Manila, that is where i load up on parts, since they are so cheap there.

Any ideas? Thanks

I'd throw away your fan clutch and install one or possibly two electrics with a thermostat. Whey will work better in your hot climate and be a cheaper alternative to replacement of your existing. By going with an aftermarket set-up you can either order on-line or use one from another model parts car. Someting like a Subaru station wagon would probably have all the bits you need.

Having the fan direct as in welding etc will cause too much drive belt and engine drag
