I just recently bought a 2003 Eclipse GT (with 3.0 V6). I can visually see the alternator/AC Comp/Crank belt is worn and needs replacing. The other belt looks fine. Can someone explain what I need to do to change this....can't turn up anything on the web! Is a special tool needed or can I just loosen the adjusting bolt? Does the fixing nut need to be loosened as well?

I also probably will need to do the timing belt but from what it looks like...this is well outside the range of the typical DIY? Any idea what a shop would normally charge to do this? Man...Iam thinking twice that is was wise to buy an import...these things seem to have way more parts on them that need normal replacing that are not cheap or easy to replace? or am I missing something? I have the full repair manual and have read through it, it's like over 3000 pages long but many normal jobs it doesn't list like anything on how to tackle them....such as the simple replacement of 2 belts for the car?

Need help guys.
Jeff

with youre manual and those instructions from club 3g you should be fine. yes there is a tool or two you will need, like the tensioner or something. I have the 4cyl, so im not familiar with it. but mainly I wanted to respond to tell you, you will probably want to replace your water pump wile you are doing this job. unless it has been clearly done, or you were told so, it probably needs replaced. that is standard procedure when doing the belts. if the belt looks like it needs changed, im sure the water pump does too...

Timing Belt is not that easy if your not sure about yourself on doing this leave it to the professional. You might ended up spending more money instead saving.
