It is under the timing belt cover bolted next to the crank the connector is at the top by bolted to the upper cover.

Are you talking about the connector to hook up to the ECU or the actual crank sensor that senses the rotation of the crank.

The connector is down towards the intake manifold on the timing side.
The actual sensor is behind the timing belt right next to the balance belt.

If you position yourself over the front driver side fender and look at the engine, you will see two wire connectors between the two timing belt upper covers. The one on the left is the wire leading down to the Crankshaft Position Sensor (if no one switched them around). The one on the right goes to your Camshaft Position Sensor. Make sure that these connections are connected properly. Maybe you can clean the inside of those connections with some electrical connector cleaner spray and a rag to protect from overspay (unhook the negative battery cable first). Then reconnect the wires and your battery and see if everything works fine. If you want to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor then you will have to remove the crankshaft pulley, both tension pullies, and timing belt covers to get to it. You can't miss it, it will be on the left side of the crankshaft connected to the oil pump face by two bolts (I believe 10mm). The rest of the wire is conected to the lower timing belt cover with plastic ties. For them to charge $500 to repair this is beyond me.
