keep the 420a and build it. i feel that engine swapping is mainly great for hondas. i would rather have a built engine, than to swap in another engine and then have to build it.

ps...i am pinning this to try to cut down on so much engine swap threads. if you have information about engine swaps, post it here. if you have questions about engine swaps, post here. also, post the reason why you chose the option you voted for.

EDITED: after further studying, I have found out that I have posted this wrong. The Evo 1-3 engines are good swaps for the GST/GSX not the 420a. Instead, the Evo 4-8 engines will be a better candidate to look at when thinking about swapping. Sorry for the confusion.

so here are some available engine swaps:

evo 4-8 - it has far superior internals than the 1G. the weight of the pistons(forged) are ultra light compared to the 1G and 2G but have a higher compression. it also has 510 injectors and a evo 16G turbo. bigger throttle body. comes with a titanium valve cover. but its also expensive

4G63t(aka GST/GSX engine) - dont even think about it unless you are looking to spend a ton of money for the swap. dont believe me....here is a list of the parts you will need:
1. 4G63 turbo engine (stock) $1500
2. transmission (stock GS-T FWD) $500
3. wiring harness for engine $300
4. 4G63 ECU (stock) $300
5. shift linkage $200
6. custom engine mounts $200
7. chassis cross member $100
8. complete exhaust $200
9. intercooler, turbo, related parts $500
10. boost gauge/fuel filter, etc $300
11. Installation $1500"

420 is a good engine too work with. There are enough aftermarket parts and knowlege out there to help you get the most of that engine

It's more cost effective to work on the engine than to swap it.

Personally, engine swapping are only good if the existing engine is blown, or the new engine is going to be a dynamo like the 2JZ-GTE, the RB25DET, ect... and you have the $$ to get the engine installed let alone just buying one!

Its not worth the $$! Keep the engine or drop the car for a GSX or GST.

..thats my 2 cents

I have a 97 Eclipse non-turbo...all stock with 144k miles on it. I want to get more horses/torque out of it but I don't know to just keep my engine or get a different one. If I do get a different one what do you guys recomend? I was thinking of trying to get the GS-T engine but maybe there is something out there I don't know about that is way better than that engine.

I don't like the 420a because it seems like such an "ancient" engine. If you look at the 4g63 and the 420a, the 4g63 just looks like a... I can't even think of something. The 4g63 has proven to be a monster with the minimum upgrades. The 420a on the other hand is so far and inbetween that you hear anything that it's hard to get positive feedback when modding this particular engine.

but you have to look at the price. its just too expensive to drop the eclipse 4G63 into the n/t eclipse.(if thats the 4G63 that you are talking about)

hello how are u guys doing. I was just reading your little convo and what not and I just thaught to add my little .02 in so here it is. :offtopic: To me I drove both the 420a motor and the 4g63 motor and to me the 4g63 is way better stock for stock, but me I own a 95 Gs And I raped plenty of cars out there and my car is bone stock. I live in florida where everyone speeds and races and I also seen the 420a on boost. I have to say I rather have the 420 on boost than the 4g63 simpley for the factor its uncommon close to rare to find one as u do a 4g63 motor. :D

edited...please learn use punctuation and its the 4G63

I have a question thats fuzzy to me. Can you run a turbo on stock 420a internals. The engine couldn't last long even when running off small psi's could it?

It would be silly to swap the 420A with the 4g63, because you also have to swap ECUs, Harnesses, etc... not worth it, IMO... if you DO swap, you'll be paying more for the swap than you did for the car...
