I wonder if any one can help me as I am at the mercy of the Mitsubishi dealer on Grand Cayman in the British West Indies. My 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer developed a leak from the passenger side of the dash and the floor gets drenched every time it rains (which is quite often during this hurricane season). I took it to the dealer and they want to charge me $1600-1800 to fix the leak. The reason they say it is so expensive is because there is a huge rusted out hole under the cowling between the windshield and the hood and they have to remove the entire dash, windshield and wiper motors to be able to weld it. I think that this must be a defect in the metal as there is no other rust anywhere on the entire car except for this spot. I want to see if anyone has any input so that possibly if it is a defect Mitsubishi will assume some of the cost to fix the hole.
