:( The blower on my heater/airconditioner unit blows hot air when I do not have the airconditioner on and when I do not have the heat on. In other words regardless of what my setting is at be it on the blue area or the red area of the dial, heat is coming out--not just warm air from the motor, but heat--yesterday it was over 103 degrees. This does not happen all the time--sometimes the air is OK. I have to put the air conditioner on to stop the hot air.

The mechanic at the Mitsubishi dealer said that that is the way it works. If so, then why isn't the air hot all the time? Something is not right. I shouldn't have to put the air conditioner on to shut the heat off.

Any help??

I have a 2000 LWB Shogun and this has AirCon and the rear heater.

The rear heater controls are mounted on the rear of the centre console, and the on/off switch on that pannel is illuminated when on. The switch is two way, so that it can be turned off by the driver, but the driver's version of the switch is not illuminated! If the fan speed is low, it is quite easy not to hear that the rear heater is running!

For the main controls, the heater setting is a thermostat rather than an indication of whether you are requesting hot or cold air, so if you set the control to 19C the system will do its best to maintain that temperature. If the temperature outside the car is cool (say 14 or less) then everything is fine since it will use heated air from the engine and cool air from outside to maintain the status quo at 19. However, if the outside temperature is higher, and possibly higher than the 19 requested, the car will simply blow hot air at you, increasing the fan speed in a effort to make things cooler, until you switch on the air conditioning - at this point it will introduced air-con cooled air until the temperature gets back down to 19, dropping the fan speed back down as it gets there, and then maintain the steady 19 for you.

In winter, I don't need the aircon, but once the outside temperature starts to rise, I end up leaving it on permanently.

Hope this helps

I have the same thing too and the only "rear heat" is from the vents which are below my seats which are controlled by the main dash unit. I just drive windows down to eliminate that or I will turn on the air if I have to . I just hate turning it on unless I am on the highway. Hopefully MitsTech will have more insite to this.

Did you ever get the blower/heat problem repaired on your Endeavor. I have had mine to two dealerships and they say nothing is wrong.

Greetings all

In reference to the HVAC issue I have noticed that if the blower fan is not turned on, in warm/hot weather when the vehicle is on the move there is a slow bleed of warm air through the system! However I also have found that if I run the blower for a couple of minutes it seem to clear it! :57:

The Endeavor's HVAC system does bleed warm air when the system is not under a load for a prolonged period of time (i.e. when it sits over night and you go in the morning with out the system on). The dealer told me that this was normal so I asked them to prove it.

They showed me the HVAC system schematic explaining, that due to the check valves being E-Vac operated, when the vehicle is off there is no signal to the valves telling them to stay closed and no available vacuum pressure to hold them so the valves tend to crack open slightly allowing for air to bypass them. According to them simply turning the truck on again is not enough to reseat the valves. You have to acutuate the system by turning on the blower creating a demand on the system resulting in the proper open/closed placement of the valved for the current vent selection.

Well thats what they told me and when I have the problem all I do is cycle the system and it goes away, so I guess all is good.

---Terms---
Check Valves: select where the air comes from and out what vents
E-Vac: Electronically controlled vacuum system
