Hi, I have a 1995 3.5 petrol LWB GLS. I had the orange oil can light come on every now and again when the engine was fully warmed up and dropped to tick-over at a traffic stop. I never found the source of the problem and after a long web search, the only suggestion was sludge in the sump intermittently blocking the oil pump pick-up filter.

I drained the oil. Ran through a flushing oil, fitted new oil and always keep it topped up (to the max mark on the dip stick). It seems to have solved the problem. I have only had the light a couple of times since (in over a year) and topping up to the mark seems to solve it.

Hope this helps

Clive
