Hi Guys

Thanks for all your advice on Pajero hunting. I have bought myself 1994 Exceed.

It has done 116,000, Silver, Alloy wheels, sun roof, air con, turbo, cd player and all the bells and whistles.

Two small questions - the light on the dash does not come on when you put it into 4WD - and we have taken the dash apart and the light is ok - is there a sensor underneath somewhere that could be damaged?

And secondly - setting your compass - is it tru that you need to do a 360 degree turn to re-set it?

Otherwise it is fantastic - drives like a dream and is really clean and tidy. :D

I noticed that nobody has tried to answer your questions so given my limited knowledge on your problems (I have read about but not experienced) I will try and help.

If the 4WD lights do come on when selecting transfer box and your dash lights are OK it probaly means that either a sensor is not working or it is not engaging into 4WD. I belive that there are sensors on the gear shift, front drive train and hubs. A mechanic who is up to speed on technology should be able to diagnois what is working what isn't. Try testing yourself on a slippery surface (ice or mud) to see if front wheels are turning before bringing into him.

From what I know about the compass you need to press the "S" button until it flashes then do two full revolutions (360 deg X 2) to the right before it figures out what direction is what. I think that this is all you have to do but I am not sure about as mine is quite different and has always worked OK.

Hope that this is of some help.

Thanks for the reply Jim

I have got the compass working and have taken the Paj off road and 4WD is definitely engaged - but the light on the dash is not coming on.

I guess it isnt a major as you can feel when 4WD is working.

Hope all is well in your part of NZ
