Hi,

I'm a new member, just registered today.
I've recently purchased a japanese import Mitsubishi Chariot Grandis 2.4 GDI privately within the last 3 months. It started driving well and look great impressing all my neighbours and friends.

Suddenly it developed a problem with the gearbox. when I start the engine from cold, the gears change fine. Within a few minutes the gearbox stuck in third gear and the neutral light start blinking. I can drive it in third gear but it is very slow moving out and burns a lot of petrol. I've recently take it to Mitsubishi main dealer who came up with two fault codes 41 and 42 refering to the solenoid valve a circuit. howver all gearbox specialist I took my car to cannot help me sought this car out. Everything seems fine again when I switch the engine off and start the car again, only for the fault to return within a few minutes.

Can anyone please help me solve this problem.

Regards,
Mac.

Hi Mac.
Had the exact same problem with mine last time.
It was due to the busted "SPEED SENSOR".
Get it replaced and it should be ok.
Enjoy. Truly an awesome MPV.
fyi mine is a 1999 2.4 GDI model

Sorry. I'm in Malaysia.
Some months back, I've browsed thru a mitsubishi autoparts supplier webpage in England which has it. Could not remember the details.
FYI, I got mine fixed for RM380 (USD100) incl. labour fee.
Make sure u have it inspected before u proceed. Mine had one of the connector pins broken.

Hi, sorry to be a pain. Can you tell me where I can find the speed sensor on my car? Everywhere I contacted for a speed sensor wants to know the part number.

The specialist gearbox garages are not much help, as they all wants to charge me £1200 to rebuild the gearbox, and still saying to me, that may not solved the problem.

Check out the webpage in my last post which has a photo of the speed sensor.
The sensor is mounted onto the gearbox somewhere at the top front side. See if you can locate it. Otherwise, I'll try to snap a photo for u.

Hi Apexmbb, I've just ordered the sensor ( Part No:MR567292) for £95.00. Can I confirmed with you the problem I posted was definitely the sensor. Also is your car gearbox a tipronic auto? I am not doubting your valuable information, my mechanics are and I want to prove them wrong. Your advice is the best I had in months of trying to get my car fix.

Regards,

Rambooka.

Yes. Mine is the tiptronic auto. I don't think I can guarantee anything. However, I had exactly the same symptoms you described. I assume you managed to locate the sensor and makeout the part number. Did you notice any defect on it?? Hope it'll be ok. Let us know how things are soon.

Hi apexmbb, I had my speed sensor changed today. However the problem is still there. This car is really testing my patience, however I'm not going to give up until I sought this problem out. I was just wondering if the mechanic you dealt with before is not local to you so you can pick his brain for me,

Anywhere, time to move on to another part, thanks for all your help.

Best wishes,

Rambooka
