Hi everybody!

I have Pajero '86 TD and I face a problem with the indicator that shows the oil compression.
The scale is from 0 to 8 and since couple of days the needle point at 0 and very rarely rises to the highest level and again to zero. The oil quantity in the motor is enough.
When it worked properly with engine starting the needle goes up to 6, then down to 2 and stays there till the engine is on.

What would be the problem?

Is it only fauty indicator or something serious?

Thanks in advance!

Alex

I had a similiar problem with my previous vechicle, a Landcruiser. Everyone told me that it was probably a bad gauge but I persisted and got it checked with another gauge and the pressure damn near blew the gauge apart! The problem ended up being a stuck pressure regulator which is between the pump and the filter. Afte I had this problem I did a bit of research on the net and found out that it is quite common, with all makes and models.

My advise is to get it checked out by a mechanic as it can lead to massive engine wear then failure especially if the pressure is to high (oil being bypassed and probably not reaching critical areas). Other than the regulator you could have a pump, filter or blockage problem. Sometimes by running a different viscosty oil will help or hurt the situation. Do some research and you will solve the problem before its to late.

The problem was so prosaic - the indicator was disconnected... shame on me
Take care
