I rebuilt a Solex Mikuni carb on a 1980 Dodge D50. Did this about 6 years ago with no problems. Now there isn't any gas getting to the barrells. There is gas getting to the bowl but that's it. In rebuilding could I have put a diaphram in backward and if so which one would it be? What gets the gas from the bowl to the barrells? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Donster,

I'm sorry, but this isn't an answer to your question, but another question. Have you been able to solve the "cold-starting-Far too rich" choke problems on your solex mikuni? I spoke with a mechanic about this and he said the wax plug was the culprit, and that you have to replace the whole top of the carb (or the whole thing) to fix the problem when the wax plug starts to slow in its response. I've since noticed that every Dodge d50 that I've seen with the 2.0 engine has an altered carb butterfly; opening it up to get more air in so it's not too rich on startup.

My truck starts fairly quickly and strong, but then starts spitting black smoke (unburned fuel) out the exhaust, and the idle surges off and on for a bit before leveling off at a REALLY high idle speed, and doesn't return to normal until perhaps 5 minutes of driving time when the wax plug finally tells the carb that the engine is warm.

I'd love to rebuild it if I thought that it would improve things at all, but I don't think it would, especially since the problem seems to be a design problem, as other trucks have alterations made as well to resolve the issue. I would appreciate any help or advice you may have. These old trucks are hard to find information on since there aren't as many around as we'd all like. Thank you so much.

I'm having the same problem with a mikuni feedback carb on my '87 colt vista wagon. I pulled the carb to see if I could track down a fuel leak, sprayed carb cleaner and got off as much gunk as I could. I believe the fuel leak was a bad hose. Remounted carb, but now fuel won't go into barrels. Fuel is going in OK. Just not getting into barrels.

Any tips on a fix? Tips on rebuilding?
Thanks
Scott
