I bought my 2000 Shogun a year ago and the heating system worked fine. Earlie this year I sensed a burning smell (somewhere towards the front) but this was brief and I never tracked what this was.

Subsequently (and it may or may not be related) the heating system gave up sending airflow (hot or cold) to the footwell - there is a minor flow, but it is as though there is a blockage and the little that is passing through ends up at the feet!

The result is that the system does not keep the temperature constant and the thermostats get confused, leading to unexpected/unwanted airflows in your face and on the screen!

My "little man that services" has checked out and can see nothing amiss. He's checked the two servo motors for the flaps and tells me these are ok. So apparently the next step is a new sealed heater unit! I'm told these are over £1,000 in parts and take three months to arrive from Japan since no one in the UK has ever had one fail and there is no stock.

At that price, and with that history, it begs the question as to whether we're missing something!

Any ideas?
