Greetings I'm installing a subwoofer setup in my friends 2003 Eclipse GS. He has the stock H/U and yesterday I tried to install the amplifier using a line-level converter. We were getting no input signal. The problem was narrowed down to input, as I plugged the sub/amp combo into my vehicle and it functioned perfectly off of an aftermarket H/U.
The converter was spliced into one of the 6 x 9's in the rearward part of the vehicle. Using my multimeter, I knew that the connection was good, as I was reading a resistance of Approximately 3 ohms with the radio not running. I was under the impression before that the converter and speaker could not be run at the same time on the same circuit, but the instructions for the converter proved me wrong.
The converter was from Schoche (sp?) and I know it's not top notch. It's got gain levels and was set up as the manual sugguested, yet still no signal. Does this model vehicle have premium audio that is preventing me from hooking up a subwoofer? Has anyone ever performed a similar operation? What is involved in swapping the H/U for an aftermarket one? I know that the audio says infinity all over it.
I'm working with one of the new Type-R 12's and a crappy amp that we will be returning today due to false advertising of power at the store and overheating issues.
Thanks in advance for any input.
