Well i finally stopped lurking because i finally nailed the car I have wanted for about 10yrs !! I got a '92 3KGT SL 5spd, but when I test drove it at the dealership, the clutch would not engage till the clutch pedal was almost fully realeased, wtf ? and I had to drop the clutch to the floor board in order to get it to shift gears, is the clutch gone ? or really close to it ? are the clutchs mechanical or hydraulic ? also i haven't drove a stick in about 2+yrs, so could this be me or is it the car ? one plus so far ice cold a/c !!!

Could be the clutch or master or slave cylinder. To inspect the master cylinder look under the dash where the clutch pedal is and follow the linkage to the firewall and look for any wetness. To check the slave cylinder on the top of the trans by the firewall pull the rubber boot back a little and see if any fluid comes out.If both of these are okay then you probably need a clutch.

also the line between the master and the slave gets old and weak in these cars. It's a cheap part, but it can be hard to get at. I believe that 3sxperformance.com sells a stainless braided version.

You should also be able to change the spot where the clutch engages on the pedal swing unless it's all the way fully adjusted one way or another.

If you're novice when it comes to mechanical issues with cars, then it's not hard at all.

well i have put in and taken out manual and auto RWD trannys, swapped a 225 chrysler slant six, and put in a 400cid with a 727 tranny and an 8 3/4 in rearend. so a FWD tranny only scares me cause its a super tight spot to work in, Ntm all the wiring !!!
