QUOTE(Bablock @ Jul 9 2005, 08:02 PM) I wanted to get the oil changed as soon after the first 1000 miles as I could, so today I went to get it done. Turns out the oil filter is some proprietary Mitsu conflageration that no one else carries. Of course no one knew this until after they had mangled the old filter to the point it was useless.
So we ended up using a filter for a Gallant, although it's shorter than the one that was on the Eclipse. The filter from the 05 Eclipse doens't fit. The number on the filter apparantly cross references to this one for a Gallant. If I end up with 5 quarts of oil under the car, someone's getting an ass whooping. :(
just a FYI, you can use the oil filter from the 2004+ galant(its the new body style galant). the 2004+ V6 Galant and the 2006 GT eclipse have the same engine. the 2005 eclipse, however, has a different engine. therefore, the oil filter from the earlier eclipse isnt going to work.

Just went through the same thing with my little sister's 06 eclipse 4 cyl. the fram part # is ph9688, it's an extra guard oil filter, and noone carries it, I bet they will after 2006......., or maybe they dont expect anyone to actually change their oil....., also, I talked to a service guy at mitsu, and he said that the filters that are on the car from the assembly plant are not the filters they use, they cant even get them after that, and I know what the other guy (from mazda) was saying about filters from the factory, I have a 00 tacoma, bought it brand new, and when I first changed my oil, I had to remove the pass. front tire and use an oil filter wrench and a 2x4 with a large hammer to get the **** thing loose, they are on there very tight from the factory apparently, they dont get the whole "hand tighten" thing

i dont agree with you eclipsed... about fram that is.
they may be lower quality, and lower price... but do they, or do they not filter oil? If you cut a fram filter open, and cut a k&n filter open, they are the exact same. Trust me, I've done it. The only problem with fram is that it is not made of materials that are good for high performance.
With that said, for my 1g I always use fram filters and valvoline oil. for my 3g I use mobil 1 oil and filters. For my dads we always use purolator filters and Havoline oil.

I understand how you feel, my first week of my eclipse my cd got jamed, so I went to get it fixed, after about 3 hours of waiting .. it was ready, when I got in my car I saw CLEAR screw drive dents on the panel, right under my audio system, and a few more right near the AC, I am really pissed, not sure if I should point it out to them
