Hi all, simple question, anyone know the recommended quantity of oil for a Chariot/Space Wagon 2.4 litre?

I normally put in about 4 litres of 10W40 (Shell Helix or similar) at 10000km (6000 mile) service intervals. However, after about 2-3000km it is not unusual for it to need a litre to top it up. Is this usage excessive or average

(NB vehicle milage is about 170000km at present and was bought at 70000km)
