Hi guys

I just got my first Evo, the 2005 Evolution IX GT 2 weeks back, and am still learning about the overall car. My previous car was a 2002.5 VW Passat 1.8T tuned to 275 bhp at the crank, and is a far cry from the Evo.

The Evo GT sold in Singapore (at least from my importer) is a standard-spec model with no S-AYC, but has the ACD, vortex generator, 5-speed 'rally-derived' box, and runs the titanium-alumium turbo. The GT also comes with the new Enkei rims and Bilstein shocks.

I've been exploring the limits of the car, in a recent late night excursion, attempted a fairly high-speed U-turn. It was then that I realised that (at around 80 km/h) the car actually understeers instead of sliding through the apex, which was not what I had expected. The end-result was that I let off the throttle to get the car back in line, and I was wondering if this is normal behaviour.

If I am attempting to drift/slide the car through the turn, what should I do? Do I need to do anything to the car (rear anti-roll bars, rear tie bars, rear strut bars) or is there a technique that i'm missing?

I'm quite a newbie to this, and hope you guys can share with me your experience and some advice.

Cheers

Kenneth

thanks, mate.

been reading up on ACD. Apparently, it is used to manage the amount of lock-up and tolerance between the rear wheels. It's fine in drags and autocross where the terrain allows for slippage (that's where ACD comes in), but definitely bad for the differential on track and tarmac.

Will be heading over to my friend's garage to tune my alignment to see how I can induce oversteer without the use of any other parts. Alternatively, may need to consider a camber kit. :|

even with they evo8 i still cant get it to drift very well unless i am at a very long curve/turn. i can feel the diffs lock up and do what it's supposed to.
i can't imagine being able to drift the the new evo9 with or w/out the ayc.
