i would hook the SAFC back up.

after talking to the guy who wrote the instructions for the fuel pump install(you did use those, right?), he said that it sounds like a bad install of the fuel pump. he suggested that you have your mechanic(or yourself if you did it), to take the fuel pump out, and reinstall it, making sure the follow the directions very carefully. its very easy to messed this install

ok, so i talked t the mechanic. he says that the pump went out because it isn't giving enough pressure. i don't believe him.

sounds like he is trying to cover his tracks from a botched install

i don't know, but i just spent $500 so he can get a whole new assembly because he says that this one is so modified that it won't work.
