Whenever i coast or accelerate (thats basically anytime u drive a car other than reverse and the occasional braking) I hear a clunking under my car. I was told nothing is loose or faulty or anything like that but this is not a sound Im used to hearing. I just put air in the tires everything seems secured and my regular mechanic wants me to take it to his specialty shop where he charges $65 just to look at the **** thing....obviously if i kno what it is without having to spend that money it would be better off any suggestions hints tips or your own experience to throw in would be appreciated. Nick

Um, well.... wow!

Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but there really just isn't enough info here. Frankly, if your mechanic - who actually saw the car and heard the noise in person - can't figure it out, then a bunch of people reading a description like a "clunking under my car" - on the internet - don't have a prayer of helping diagnose the problem.

Im' a pretty good mechanic, but I'm not clairvoyant. :D Sorry.....

when you say "lugs" do you mean also mean "studs" as we say in australia ? the wheel stud or lug ? is what the wheel nuts tighten onto and thus hold the wheel in place.

we are talking about the lug nuts/wheel nuts that screw onto the studs. mine were not properly tightened and the tire almost came off.
