Ok.....I drive a 98' eclipse GS with no mods, but it gets up and goes just fine for me. I've been thinking yeah, I'm going to get a turbo charger, do some intake, build up the internals, etc. Well last night a buddy of mine gave me a ride in his 05' WRX Sti....I'm thinking forget the eclipse, i'm selling it and getting into an Sti ASAP!!! His car is completley stock except for an intake...it was ungodly fast!! He said he drives the **** out of it and so far it has been "bullet proof". For any of you who haven't driven/riden in an Sti i suggest you go test drive one or something, it'll make your nipples perk up!! :P

Looks like we gonna lose u as a member of our club!...awww what a shame...oh well!!! :)
Just kidding hay you may have a lot of power in that car but no sexy body like you do in an Eclipse :bwekk: hehehe
If that is the same car I think your talking about I thought it only had 210hp. I may be wrong but that's the same as a stock Eclipse GST and the price is enough to make ya pass out!!!
What them things cost $34,000? when you can build what you got for less than 1/2 that and still have money in the bank for a new house.
And let's face it to maitain a car with a turbo let alone premium gas and insurance is gonna cost a weee bit more...Cha Ching!!! :blush-anim-cl:
I thought about a Supercharged Cobalt I may buy one just to complete what I have, 2 door sports car, long bed mini nissian but right now I got enough toys can't take em wit me when it's time to go...But I'm sure gonna try  !!!
I'd think twice B4 I go out and buy a high $ car when I can get about the same hp out of something else, like you I was disapointed when I 1st learned all that I had to go throgh to get my Eclipse up to snuff but I think it just may be worth it besides I got almost $27,000 wraped up in mine so I gotta see it throgh to the end.
The math teacher is the best teacher intrest, value once u get it off the lot, etc...something t think about b4 u run inside that bank :gunsmilie:
If you do buy we wish you the best :trophy:

If what you want is speed than you can get an 80ish mustang 5.0 for about $3000.00 and for less than $3000.00in mods smoke the subarooooo in the 1/4 mile. But there is always going to be someone with a faster car. The difference is what class the car is in.

Heh....i actually used to have an 86 mustang 5.0 that thing really did scoot along pretty good stock. The reason i want the Sti is because (aside from the awd and turbo) it's a 6 speed tranny. And i've met a few people who are pushing 500+ horses out of them (and i've heard you can go even higher). If i go ahead and get one i'm definatley going to miss my eclipse. Oh and another thing, the insurance on WRX sti isn't that bad, it's actually classified as a 4 door sedan, not a sports car!!! :D But we shall see, it is a pretty hefty investment. It'd almost be more fun to build up my eclipse and beat corvettes with that (can i get it that fast? 1/4 mile wise i mean).

I've seen eclipses that top 200mph......but those have about 60,000 sunk into them....basically it's not an eclipse anymore, just the eclipse body stuffed with race car parts >.<

Well...WRX with 210HP at $23K or STi with 300HP at $35K. Hmm...I like them both, but as long as it's an '05 and not an '06...ugly.

That's because it's FWD and transfers it's power faster. The problem is that it snaps half-shafts a lot and can't handle enough power unless you modify them.

ummm...... huh??

your telling a FWD is faster because it transfers power faster? so, apparently the idiots at Subaru missed that one when they decided to build their car with AWD? FWD's snap half-shafts a lot? strange.. I have a heavily mod'ed eclipse FWD with the original CV's on it (with over 148,000miles on them) and despite having over 300hp, i have yet to encounter this "common" problem...

now, allow me to explain why AWD is FASTER than FWD... FWD cars have an inherant traction problem due to the fact that when a car is under forward acceleration, inertia pushes the mass of the car towards the rear, this takes weight off of the front tires, causing them to lose grip. the faster your FWD car, the worse this problem becomes. AWD cars overcome similar traction issues by using all four tires to propel the vehicle. this means, that unless the entire car is in the air, there is always a tire on the ground, maintaining grip to accelerate the car.

so to say that FWD cars are generally faster than AWD is simply false. there are two major negative factors with AWD: one, they lose a little bit more power than FWD/RWD cars in transmission. this is because they have one more differential than other cars. the other short-coming is that they generally suffer from under-steer like a FWD car does, because of the great amount of work being placed on the front tires, and the propulsion in the rear adds to it.

AWD is for wimps! :P

Soon as i get some money together, I'm dropping this FWD **** and going RWD only, and never turning back. RWD is where it's at for true motoring

And I don't agree that AWD is for whimps. I'd like to see you use RWD on a rally course!
