I have a 2004 Outlander with 12K miles that has developed a serious sounding loud popping sound in the drivers side front suspension when hitting a bump, stopping, or light turning/swerving manuevers. It is going to be at least a week before I can get it to the dealer. Has anyone had similiar problems?

Thanks

Does it still make the sound if it is just parked, and you push down on front bumper?Did you hit any big potholes or anything?I have the 2004 as well and the only suspension noise im starting to get is the famous rear end squeek..you have that one yet?

I cannot get it to make the noise by pushing up and down on the fender. I have jacked it up and checked for loose/worn components. Nothing obvious.

Not sure if this has contributed, but I do have a mile drive down a dirt road to get to my home.

I don't have the rear end squeak (yet). Thanks for reply.

I checked the CV boots and they appear intact. However, the noise has mysteriously disappeared. I am sure that after my dealer service maintenance visit, it will re-appear.

I have the same poping sound once crossing continue rough roads
or even drive way in the carpark.

Had the car checked by dealer, no sign of bush worn out/ lossen bolt or part.
It's really a mistery.

It seems premature at 12K but this sure sounds like worn sway bar end links. If you drive rough roads that is no doubt it. This has been a Mitsu problem for years. My 95 Expo went through two sets and I see my Outlander has the same link setup. It's hard to check them unless the car is on a lift. Even then it takes a mechanic that knows how to check them. Usually they are good for 20-35K on rough roads but you never know. Replace them and all will be quiet. Should be a warrany item. It was on the Expo...........

Do you mean the small ball joint unit at the swaybar end?
Or just the bushes?

I head about that on Evo net, it also happened to EVO's.
Some said it causes by the springs slapping, some said
strut top mount. seems there are few kinds of noises that cause
by different part.

I'm Confused....
I think it's better start from the cheapest part.

As stock link cannot last long, any alternative replacement?
I found a link kit from WhiteLine#KLS075B 75mm Single eye link kit,
but dunno if that can be replacing the ball joint part.
Anyone tried?

I bought a 2005 Outlander in May. During the first weekend that I drove it, I noticed the sound. I inmediately took it to the dealer, and they noticed it too. That week, there was a Japanese expert in my city. He explained that an element in the suspension system must be replaced (i did not receive any other details). I complained and they agreed to change my car.
However, they lent me another car until my new would come. This car had also the same sound !!
Just some hours ago, they gave me the new Outlander (which also came with two sunroofes :) ) I haven't noticed the sound yet, let's see what happens tomorrow.

Hm, sounds like they are hiding something behind.
If the problem is minor, they'll fix it other than give you a new one.

guys,

I just replaced both swaybar end links this weekend,
the popping still there, but not as frequenly as before,
say, it makes 20% lesser.

So, that should not be the real fixed there.
Do you think it's anything related to the strut top mount?
Or, maybe the track rod's ends?
