hi everyone,

I am in Zambia, Africa and I own a Mitisubishi RVR X 1991 model and it is a petrol engine. I bought it as a second hand vehicle last year after being retrenched where i was working. A light "Check Engine" has started lighting on the dash board. Once it does it that the vehicle momentarly loses power and starts to jerk. A few seconds later it switches off and the vehicle is normal again. Other then this problem, the performance is excellent.

I have changed the fuel filter, oil filter, spark plugs, airfilter and the fuel pump. For spark plugs, someone advised me to use the supper 4 Bosch plugs, I am using them but to no avail. I have also tried to check for loose connection. I have noticed that just before the check engine comes on, the revs on the engine rev counter drop suddenly for a moment.

I have tried garages here locally but they can not figure out the problem; not many are experienced with the RVR vehicles here. Can someone please advise me on what the problem could be.

Best regards,

Hi! I am a Tanzanian and also own a 1991 mitsubishi RVR-x that I purchased in 2001. I had the same problem with the check engine. I later found out that the problem is with the ECU - two rybicon capacitors C111 and C104 are starting to fail and you had better replace them before the ECU stops altogether - this is a small job if done immediately. I was unfortunate in that my ECU was destroyed by the capacitor leakages and have to buy a new ECU!
