Is anyone else having problems with the paint job on their galant? My paint is starting to spot all over the roof and trunk in big patches. It's pretty bad because my car is black and the spots are grayish/white. Need advice and help!!!

I have a 2000 black galant and I also have the same problem. I took it back to the dealership and they said that the Texas heat was peeling the paint. Which was a lie because after that I noticed several other galants with the same problem and then by neighbor had an black eclipse and it was doing the same thing. I then contacted Mitsubishi Motors they said my car had too many miles on it for them to do any thing. I body shop guy that worked for the dealership admitted to me that there was a defect in the paint but he was one of the "little guys" I dont it is right that I bought a car with 6 miles on it and it is looking like a zebra"black car with white stripes. :(

I ran into the same problem. I repainted the whole car. And my mom went to the dealer to buy an outlander and told him about the paint he said that mitsu would have paid for it. I forget under what warrenty. He asked what year it was (at the time it was 2003) and he said it was about 1-3 years off of warrnty (car is a 1994 black galant) So try and see who u can contact. The first person might say no but keep trying.

I had a 2001 Black Galant ES and the same thing happened. After a couple years I noticed spots on the roof, a few on the hood and some by the rear window frame. I just put it off as weather related, with the Atlanta heat but come to find out it was the defect in the paint. The spots were so small that by the time I traded it in last October, the dealership did not even notice it.

:o Hmm, I haven't had that problem yet, but of course I wax and buff the **** out of my car every month :P . I dunno, as for the guy with the "Cancer" I mean rust on his car... um, if its still light, grind it down and bondo it. Just make sure you do a good bondo job, otherwise it aint worth it. Then primer it, and get painted. ;)

Hi - YOU ARE NOT ALONE - look it is not the heat or the lack of waxing, or anything esle you have done - it is a defective paint job.

Go to - My Mitsubishi Paint Problem dot com - we are making a database of VINs and your expereinces to leverage Mistubishi to come up with a reasonable answer.

We have all heard the same lame excuses from the dealers - you should not have to feel bad about your investment.

Visit the site and we'll get this worke on together.

My paints chipping on my white mitsubishi galant, it's pissing me off. How much does a good paint job go for? Or what's a good product to do touch ups?

I have a 2000 Galant GTZ, and it is Patriot Red. My Paint Problems are bizzare. The plastic parts are affected only...the spoiler shows signs of dulling, but its not bad... and the bumpers are ok. The big problms are the mirrors, and the door handles and door handle trim. It appears to me the clear coat in the problem locations is seperating from the paint. On rainy/wet days, followed by humidity, these parts of the car look very pale.... like there is fog between the clear coat and the paint. It has been doing this for about 2-3 years now. Last week, after a rain storm I noticed the mirrors moved beyond this, and now the clear coat is cracking and flaking off. It is still red, just not shiny. Once the air dries out, the other parts look normal again. Very weird... its like the clear coat is porous, and is becoming saturated with moisture. The paint on the rest of the car is immaculate, so it really stands out when it is wet. I wax my car couple times a year, and wash it every week or so. I think for me, I will have to get those specfic parts stripped and painted with with new clearcoat as well.

yeah on my front bumper almost ALL the paint is cracking off.....im purchasing a front body kit and painting that just because i was SOME style with it. rims, body kit and tint is what ill be happy with. but yeah back on track, i hit a family of racoons(yeah how sad) but somehow the paint started chipping off since. maybe once u get a kind of chip in teh clear coat it gets to the paint then bada bing it falls off. anybody also got body kits on their 2000 galants?

Man I 'm glad I read this, luckily I work for Pilkington North America (automotive glass wholesale) so I'm in pretty good with all the local body shops and might get a decent price on a full body repaint.

Now If i can just find a 2000 in AWD turbo and with in a price range I can afford.

I just had a big section of paint come off my passenger side fender. at first i thought the car was in an accident and painted before i bought it (used 03 galant) but after reading this I'm not so sure. does anyone have other flaws aside from spotting? My hood has some burns marks from a buffer in it, which also lends to a half **** body shop

Is this what ya'all are having probs with? Its the clearcoat thats pealing, I think I will have to get the whole car resprayed because its happening on the hood as well. My 3rd Galant in profile pic had same problem but roof has been coated with like a clearcoat peal safe all it is, is a stronger clear coat that will take the hotter heats...This happens on ALOT of other makes besides Mitsu. Mainly to black and strong reds I have noticed...

On the paint issue...........there are a TON of Mitsu cars with this. If i remember correctly, it was a manufactoring issue with just the black cars. The clearcoat was not done right or something and the white spots are called the cancer and it likes to spead. I was quoted 5k for a paint job on mine. Might just get some stuff and do it myself

Sry to bump this topic, but the clearcoat is an obvious problem with the Black Mitsubishi's everywhere.

I have a 2003 Galant ES with only 30k miles and they say its not covered under warranty because it is "cosmetic". I have talked to paint and body workers and they say it is definitley a defect in the clear coat.

Im not worried about it right now, seeing as how I have a wrecked front end to worry about... minor rear end, but pushed the front bumper back about 1 1/4 inches, just enough to make the hood look nasty...

Yeah man I am going through the same problem with my car. First mine started on the hood of the car. So of course I chalked it up to being heat related due to the engine and stuff being there. Then I started noticing in on the trunk. Now it has spread all over my trunk, my hood, and the top of my roof. It is ridiculous! At first I thought maybe I wasn't waxing it enough or something. But I see people here whose Black Galant's that look TEN times worse than mine. Mine is still at the point that if I get it washed and waxed from a distance it still looks semi reasonable. But from close up everyone can tell it looks like crap. I think Mitsu ought to stand by there mistake and address this problem. 5k is alot of money to shell out on a new paint job when it's something the factory screwed up on to begin with. I would even go with them paying half of it. But this isn't a small problem based on what I'm reading here, and from what I've seen with my own eyes here in Baltimore.
Let me know if anyone makes any progress with Mitsubishi regarding this matter....

Thanks...
