Hello first time using a site like this, If any one can help wpould be very pleased. I have carisma 1.8 GDI 1998, has a hesitation/flat spot when at low speed/ revs. Have heard allsorts of rumours and doom merchants saying things about engine failures and carbon deposites and would like to find out more and solve problem. Also rear suspention seems to be very soft and am about to buy new shockers but thought i,d check that there is no other hidden problems.

The car has done 75,000 with full service history and seems to run fine when pulling at reves.

Any help would be most apreciated.

Meurig

Hi i have a Carisma GDI of same age, I noticed a flat spot develop when pulling in 3rd or 4th gear, was recommended some simple spray, link is posted below, it costs 30 quid, but is well worth it as it has removed much of the carbon deposits within the engine. Power and economy have subsequently improved!

http://www.ecotekplc.com/power_boost.htm

Just spray the can (follow instructions) through the air filter, do not take the air intake pipe away fomr the engine, as this causes the engine to choke during application.

Let me know how you get on.

Andy

If you want to stiffen up the rear suspension without buying new springs you can use rubber blocks from a camping/caravan shop for towing (used to stop the rear end bottoming out whilst towing). They sit in between the springs (correct size required) and are easy to fit yourself, as a result of this you get less roll whilst cornering. This method is cheap and does the job! This method also helps if you got big rims that are rubbing the bodywork.

Hello.

Do you have idle problems when engine is warm???? Perhaps could be the "high pressure fuel pump" or its regulators. I have post a question about this.

Good look.

nice one guys, i've been wondering would the power boost help and what the story was with the suspension. I'd just gotten a price of €1250 for a set of coilovers for it but like the sound of the rubber blocks.
cheers!
