ok a little "what i have already done, and know". first off i am driving a 91 rvr 1.8L auto. it seems that the trans is stuck in safe mode, but there is no indication of it stored in the tcu. i try to recieve any codes but i keep getting nothing. so i started trouble shooting to see if i can come up with anything else. i found some trouble shooting info for a 92 eagle summit wagon, this is about as close as i can get to an rvr manual without going and buying one online, the eagle has the same transmission as the rvr. i got through about half the trouble shooting when i found the orange wire going to the shift controll sol. broken right befor the trans conector. so far i have two things that look out of specs on the ohm meter but i want to re check them tomarrow when i know the engine isn't warm.

so other than the obvious does anyone have any other ideas as to what else might cause a problem with the trans not shifting? i have already fixed the wire and drove the car again but it dosent seem to have really fixed anything.

I have exactly the same problem, and I have a 92 Eagle Summit. Do you have the wiring diagram for the Eagle? My local Mitsu deal can't get them, and the 92 diagram I purchased on line doesn't match my wiring. If your trans is in failsafe (thrird gear), then there should be a code, but you might have to have an old "MUT" tester to get it. If you have the diagram, I can walk you through the pin testing of the TCU.

If you need another wiring diagram let me know I'll scan you the factory wiring manual. I have the mech. portion also, but left it at the shop this weekend.

Hi

I have a 92 summit also. And we believe it's stuck in 2nd gear but it's hard to tell if stuck in 3d really! I've just ordered the factory manual to trouble shoot the problem.

A 94 Mitsubishi Galant factory manual was helpful in isolating the possible problem but I got stuck testing the Park Neutral switch becuase the connector pins did not match.

Our only physical symptom other then not changing gears is that when you switch gears, all the lights in the dash except D light up.

94 manual says that if stuck in 3rd, can be internal problems with sensors and the like. If stuck in 2nd, can be one of 3 or 4 possible problems but probable problem is park neutral switch or overdrive switch.

thanks for the offer, actually my wiring diagram seems to be good, what i can really use is trouble shooting info and the correct way to download the TCM codes to see if there is a reason the transmission is stuck in a gear with no indication of anything wrong..

I'm having the exact same problem. Tranny is in limp mode. Codes 41,45,47, and 85? Solenoids ohms are ok. I need a wiring diagram for the 92 Eclipse, 1.8l, automatic. I need to get this car running and out of limp mode. Maybe the TCU is the problem. What does it look like and where?
