I own a 99 VR4 but I would say the new eclipse is geared for the older generation and the younger gen with money. Mitsubishi is looking for any one with money$$$. The new eclipse is about the same amount of money as you buying a 2nd or 3rd gen 3000GT VR4 and will and way less for the money. If you compared a modded VR4 and a new 4g modded; hmmm. However, any ways that is off topic... I would say if you are a rich kid or mommy and daddy buy you one then most 4g will be bought by the 20 and up crowd that have good credit and nice jobs. So thus the mid to older gen is where mitsu is probably looking to market.

Just my two cents

the only thing a 3000gt has against the 4g is that it has been around longer and has more parts to be able to mod the cars avail. i personally dont think that is a good comparison. The other thing is that Oct. of 98 the price tag for a loaded 99 VR4 was almost 40k compared to the price tag of a loaded 4g being about $28k. If you used that extra $12k to mod a 4g it would crush a stock 99 VR4. My point is if you want to go $$ for $$ a VR4 wouldnt have anything against a 4g. you want to put 5k into your VR4 then put that same 5k into a 4g + the extra 12k that was spent on that car when it was new. i am almost willing to bet i could make my 06 into awd and twin turbo for $17k and since the VR4 was rated at about 300 HP stock and the GT is rated at 260 (the gt being almost instant power while the VR4 needs both of those turbos to spool up to get that power) the only thing it has against the gt stock is the awd.

ok I understand where your coming from... point taken... but please rember that I'm talking about the present time and not new for new... plus the I recomend that you do a little research on the interals of the new 3.8L vs. the 3.0L v6 TT and then let me know if the stock 3.8L is able to hold 24 psi from a twin turbo upgrad... I know the VR4 can. but over all I am trying to ask why some one in this time period (ie right now) would pick a 4g eclipse over a VR4 when then are the same price IF you are getting the car for performance... I fully understand if you like the eclipse for looks because personaly I think the new 4g is a great looking car in every aspect.

ok this is way off topic but i am going to mention why i bought my 06. I got tired of buying used cars having them breakdown and having to fix them out of my pocket because they didnt come with a warranty. i blew up my 96 twice in 8 months and i got tired of fixing it so I bought a new one so if something breaks on it it goes to the dealer and they fix it.

As for the 3000gt/ dodge stealth line. I used to work at used car dealership and if you could find a warranty company that would put a warranty on those cars you were lucky. As for performance the 4g has decent performance for the piece of mind (to me) that if something went wrong it would get fixed.

I am 35 and I have a 07 Spyder GS but I changed a few things. Custom exhuast, Injen CAI, Tanabe tower mount and under sustec and rear sway although I had to relocate oil filter fore sustec. Full grounding kit for engine and Razzi kit car is sweet but still a slow cow so I built a 91 240 with an SR20 at 370bhp for the track. Middle aged crisis? hell no!!! I finally have the salad to pay for it!
