Greetings from Australia. I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Challenger PA 4WD automatic leaf-spring model (same as a Montero Sport) with the 2H, 4H and 4L selectable gearstick.

However my model did not come with the rear limited-slip differential (in Australia the rear LSD was optional as a package with ABS and cruise control).

I want to fit a limited-slip rear diff from another Challenger (2000 build with rear leaf-springs) that came with this option.

Can anyone tell me whether the rear diffs are totally interchangeable?

Is this a straightforward swap, or am I going to run into complications eg different tailshaft lengths etc?

My rear diff tag shows part number M67***(can't read the other numbers) and a ratio of 4.636

Unfortunately Mitsubishi Australia are not forthcoming with information. Maybe someone has the name and email address of a knowledgeable USA Mitsubishi dealer that I can totally rely upon?

Or is there a better option (eg. a Detroit locker)? Unfortunately I cannot afford an ARB air locker, so I am looking for a more cost-effective solution.

Alternativel does anyone on this forum have a rear LSD for sale? Happy to correspond with you directly at dgolding01@optusnet.com.au.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Dave
Sydney, Australia

Hi Dave,

Generally, how do you find the car to drive? We are considering buying this model 4x4 and would really like to know in advance if it is known to have major problems.
The last thing we want is to have to spend major cash on major parts.

Any comments would be great.

You can interchange it as long as the gear ratio from the front and rear are the same if you will be using 4x4. i dont see any problems with it.
