So, I know the past 5 years or so have been tough on Mitsubishi but I was wondering what people think the chances were of 3000GT return???

Now, I'm biased b/c I love the car but it never made sense to me when they discontinued it.

If Mitsu is going to turn their company around (which they are trying to do) they need their customers to keep coming back when its ready to buy a new car.

Think of it this way

High school= EVO

College = Eclipse

Real Word= 3000GT

35+yrs old = Diamante

If The Family Guy can return to Fox, then the 3000GT can return to Mitsubishi!!!!

p.s. Does anyone have info that states why Mitsu decided to discontinue the car???

John

I own a vr4, I dont have any info on why they quit, but I have a serious hypothesis.... one question, would you buy a mitsubishi (japanese car, supposed to be cheap and ecenomical) for 45k to start?? when every other car was only 10-20k? that is all.........

ive only heard rumors about why they discontinued it. its basically what he said below. they didnt sell enough of the car to keep it in running manufacturing. for a base model, thats still about 30 grand, which is a quite hefty amount for a low model that only runs a 16 second quarter mile stock and isnt mroe luxorious than any new car thats come out in the last few years that costs about 15k new

The demise of all of the 90s japanese sports cars happened because they priced themselves out of the market.

3000GT
supra
rx-7
300ZX

All got bloated, overpriced, and left on the cutting room floor.

If they started selling the 3000GT again, they would need major revisons before I would even look at it.

Think about it, back in the day it was a GT class car, made to have some ability in every type of situation. roadcoarse, straight line, crusing, whatever.

It was on par with the corvette, and other japanese cars.

The corvette is quite frankly out of reach on a performance for price ratio coming from across the pond, and the major performers from japan are 4 door econoboxes that go fast on accident, not sports cars.

Plus, I don't want mitsu to bring it back as wrong wheel drive only, like the last two generations of the eclipse.

to do it right, they would probably need a larger displacement engine, 4.something liter, turned the right way (so that it drives the rear wheels, and the transfer case then delivers power to the front wheels) with better turbos, and they need to drop the crap like active aero, and replace it some usefull electronics.

But that won't happen, because that would again, price it out of the market.

I always thought the car needed a bigger engine.

I agree it was too expensive vs what else was out there, but look at cars out there now.

G35= 36K

Charger= 30K

G6(yawn)=30K ( I think 30 or more???)

Mitsu should build two models, 30K - 40K. Base would be 300HP 5 speed Drop a 400HP 6 speed twin turbo in the top end model and call it a day
