My 96 gst is running about 16 psi...i have a stock exhaust which is what i think the problem is (bigger exhaust = more backpressure) i also heard that having a blow off valve can cause turbo lag because it doesnt dump back in to the intake...is this the problem, if not what do you think? thanks

yay! turbo lag! my favorite 2 words in the whole wide world!!

ur partly right... big exhaust will result in less lag and faster spool-ups, but it does so by providing less back pressure, not more... back pressure is what slows you down by robbing horsepower because ur engine literally needs to divert horsepower into getting the exhaust out of the car rather than it simply flowing out on its own.

as far as having a blow off valve, ur car came with a blow off valve, so im assuming u mean u put an aftermarket vented BOV on the car cuz u like the little psssssshhhh noise more than the effect that it has on ur car, do some searchin and ull find lots of good advice for that one. but, no, of all the problems that venting ur BOV causes, turbo lag is not one of them.

lag is caused by exhaust systems, intake systems, the turbo itself, and intercooling. all of these factors play into turbo lag. now with the stock T25 turbo, u have very little lag.... u should see what it feels like in my big 16g which flows almost 2x as much air. the bigger the turbo, the more inertia the turbo has, the more lag.

edit: i did the searching for u... http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/index.php?showtopic=7730
admins, u should really consider a FAQ section that can be pinned for things like this :)

dont forget that all turbo applications have some sort of turbo lag.. thats one advantage of a supercharger...but superchargers dont hold up as long as turbos and i would NEVER put a superchager on an import... ever
