I'm in the process of turboing my 1993 4G64 Eagle Summit. The plan is to go as followed:

- Keep the stock botton end (7 bolts)
- Keep the automatic Transmission
- Install a DOHC head from a 2G DSM turbo 4G63 with all the hardware from a Galant GS (Tbelt etc..)
- Intake,TB, fuel rail, FPR, injectors 450cc, complete harness, turbo ECU (1997) from a 2G DSM
- 1G exh mani, T25 turbo, 7 bolts turbo oil pan.
- SMIC installed in HMIC config with 1G BOV and hood scoop.
- And finally shift that **** with TCUGO's wireless paddle shifter (www.tcugo.com)

I'm planning on keeping the stock wastegate boost pressure, ~ 11 psi, which has been proven to be a reliable way to go on N/A pistons from a 4G64.

My question is, does anybody had done something like this? I know that some of you have made some 4G63T swap, which is easy compare to what I want to do. I have 95% of the hardware now, I'll starting this project as soon as winter arrive here in Quebec. Also, I'm in a the dark regarding the fuel pump. I'm not sure if I will have enough fuel for a FI application.

I am assuming your will be using the 4G64 DOHC NA pistons. The compression may be too high to run 11lbs, you'll run too lean and blow the motor. Unless you're running a thicker H/G and/or adjust your fuel trims.

They do make a Walbro 255HP replacement for the Expo/Summit. I need to check on the website.

I am swapping out my 2.4 and temporarily replacing it with a 2.0, until I have time to build the 2.4. Mine is a late 91 build so I have a 6 bolt. My original plan was to just build the 2.4, replace the pistons, change the head, run the wires and change the ecu. Because this is my DD and the trans seems to have the DSM grind, I went ahead and bought a race trans and rebuilt 2.0 motor.

What other mods are you doing to the Summit? Is it a 3 or 5 door?

My current mods are:
Hotbits front coilovers
Eibach rear spring 1.75" drop
17" Enkei DM5's

Mods going in this weekend:
2.0 6 bolt swap
JM Fab intake manifold with 63 mm NT t/b
Big 16g turbo witha Tial 46mm W/G
DNP header
3" turbo back exhaust
Act 2900 with a fidanza fw
TRE built 5 speed trans with a GVR4 1st gear
front and rear sub frame and rear trailing arms from a 90 Talon donor
4 bolt rear
rear disc brake conversion with a 4 lug setup from a GVR4
Rear Hotbit coilover setup
Keydiver stage 3 chip
MAFT Pro running speed density
FMIC with a Tial BOV
GVR4 instument cluster

Body will be:
RVR front lights
JDM corner lights
RVR Hyper Sports gear front/rear bumpers, rear spoiler and sided skirts (needs to be extended)

Sorry to jack the thread :)

I'm keeping the SOHC pistons which are rated 9.0 or 9.5:1. There's somebody up here in montreal that is running a 4G64 with SOHC pistons along with a 16G @ 11 psi without any problem so far.

I've just bought a 93 FWD AT Summit Wagon to take out the bottom end for the turbo project, but ****.. this truck is in too perfect condition to be sacrify. I'm now thinking of using the complete AWD drivetrain of my other Summit Wagon and swap it in the new truck I ve just purchase. Kind of a long winter project. Need to make sure that's "doable" , but based on the FSM , it is. Need to swap the following :

- Gaz Tank
- Rear knuckles complete with axles
- Rear Diff
- Driveshaft
- Front axles

As for the body, I will leave it as sleeper as I can.

Post some pics when you'll get into your swap and keep me updated.

Hi Hugo,

I'm thinking you will run into a problem, because on the SOHC pistons there are no cutouts for the valves and the valves will definitely hit the pistons.

Edit: I keep forgetting these are 16 valves. You should be fine =)

I'll check on the comp ratio when I get to the shop (left the shop manual there) on Saturday.

You'll need the whole rear subframe to do the swap based on the manual and pics it should bolt up just fine.

I'll get some pics up during and after the swap.

Here's a pic after I lowered it.

Nice ride! :)

What did you do for the rear? I couldn't find upgraded replacement struts. I know that the front is similar to the GVR4, but nothing is available for the rear suspension tough.

As for the pistons , you are correct , it's a 16 valves setup (on the 7 bolts engine) so I'm not worried.

For the rear there are a couple of options. Standard KYB's or if you have friends or family in Europe or have a close Bilstein dealer that would order them for you from Europe you can do that.

Front Strut Part number : VNE-4782
Rear Strut Part number : BNE-6344

For springs: Hotbit makes a spring set and Eibach Europe makes lowering springs

I was unable to use the pillowball mounts on the front struts, because the mounting points were slightly off.

I happen to go on ebay UK and they had a set of Eibachs for sale so I bought it. I didn't bother changing the rear shocks because I am changing out the rear subframe to a DSM.

Here's the link for the fuel pump

Great! thanks for the tips on suspension and fuel.

You said that you're changing the rear sub frame to a DSM.. are you using the 1G or 2G setup? are they 100% compatible?

No problem :)

I'm using a set up from a 1g. The way the E/S/V are set up is that if the car has ABS the rear uses disc and drum e-brake. That is the same setup as a 2g.

I'll know for sure this week or two on the compatibilty. I'm 95% sure, it'll fit with minor adjustments on the rear, the front I'm about 99% sure it'll fit for mine. Still waiting for a few more bushings from Whiteline, Noltec and energy suspension.

Tcugo,

The compression on the 2.4 16 valves are 9:5

Thanks, that make sense compared to what I've read on the compression test. I have 195 psi on each cylinder.

Hey Hugo,

Yeah, been busy with finishing up a starion and doing another Talon build. Swap is coming along. I am unable to use the front sub frame, from a DSM. Going to have to do some welding to do the rear.

Motor and trans are in, have to finish up on the wiring and rewiring the guages.

I'll get some pics of it this weekend.

Hey John, Nice rims! Question: Were you able to adjust the camber of the rears after lowering?

Check mine out. My Garage

Hey be989,

Nice ride :), saw your car on car domain, but for some reason I can't log in?. After I lowered the rear I wasn't able to adjust the camber on it, for the front I have camber plates. I'm trying to figure out a good approach. I was thinking about swaping the rear subframe from a 92 Eclipse with a 4 bolt rear or just raising it back up and swap the guts of a 95+ DSM rear end and use the their axles.

I forgot to bring the camera with me this past weekend. I'll try to remember it for this weekend.

Hey John, what year Expos came with the 6-bolt? I would guess it's the G64b.

How's the swap coming along?

Hey GVR-4,

Only the early 92's came with the 6 bolt. Swap is done. Just a dew items that needs to be done. Finish rewiring the ecu, hook up the WTA I/C, and I have a problem with the shifter cables. After installing the TRE trans, I do not have any side to side movement, the original cable (side to side) are about an inch to short. There are no adjustments available, so I need to cut, thread and add a coupler onto the cable for adjustments.
