$30, make you holla

I was at Walmart last night, saw this APC kit for a 95 Civic for $30. Turned it around, cut a hole for the MAS. Here it is :

This engine makes crazy intake noise when it free to breath like this, and the mivec kicks in. Engine just sounds like it is creaming!

So, how does it ride? Does it feel quicker? I'm curious because of the way Mitsubishi Developed the Airbox that I believe changes between high and low intake ducts and it has two resonators. I think this is why you feel the below 3000 rpm's lag when accelerating slowly that you were talking about in your other post. I feel that too in my 4G. I recall reading that it changes intake valvues at 4000 rpm's. Because I read different things on different boards and car magazines, I'm confused on what is exactly right and how a simple intake like your setup works. I want to tell you though that that is the cleanest intake attempt that I have seen yet on the new 4G GT model. Good job! :)

The little door on the air box only closes for noise reasons. The intake on the car is pretty loud. That is why there is two resonators, and the door that opens at higher rpm. It feels good, like I said, the intake sounds very powerful on the car. Seems to have an easier time reving out with the intake, however I have not dynoed the car to see any real gains. It is a pretty straight shot from the air filter to the throttle body though, so it is obviously breathing better. Just a note on the ehxaust, from the headers on back, this is a pretty straigh system. One cat, then a resonator, two bends and a muffler. I doubt that there is much restriction other than the muffler.

Thanks for the reply. This is really exciting that someone has done one as clean as your setup. On most cars I like the louder intake. Makes the vehicle seem meaner. So if anything for now without the dyno, you would say that its at least as good if not better than the stock air box, sounds louder, and looks cleaner. In this sense it seems that depending on your preference for noise this is a good setup.
